Bridge to Terabithia..life lesson

I took my granddaughter to a movie yesterday. I decided to take her to see Bridge to Terabithia expecting it to be a mostly fantasy type movie. My granddaughter is 7 years old. I was so upset at the ending as the makers (writers, producers and such) again put a reality lifes lesson into a perfectly good movie. I think Terabithia would have been better with a different "almost ending" and ending. It was nice he and his little sister made up and all, but, at one point both my granddaughter and I were in tears. I don't want to say too much here as I don't want to spoil the movie for anyone that has not seen it but damn. The great fantasy stuff scene that they show on the previews is just about it. I felt betrayed by the commercials and previews for the movie. Don't get me wrong it was a good movie, but if I had known it would be a tear jerker I would have chosen something else to see. My granddaughter may be a tomboy on the outside but she is still a sensitive little girl inside. I would have been better off to have taken her to see WildHogs. I wanted laughs not tears. Anyone else feel the same way? Is Hollywood putting too many lifes "big" lessons into movies geared towards children?

I really like the way you don't want to spoil it for those that might not have seen the movie. There are precious few people with that level of consideration these days! To answer your question - yes I think its sometimes too much real stuff in a child's movie. I remember crying bitterly at Lion King (and I was about 18, mind you - well, that's me)cos I expected a light fun movie - and watching someone die in an animated movie where people usually get right up after being run over and boiled/ frozen/ chopped and worse, was too much to digest even to me, so I can relate right to what you say, though I have not watched the actual movie in question.
