Have you ever found that you have too many good ideas?

I tend to like writing articles for the two content sites that I write for but often I will end up with a lot of unfinished articles because as I start on them another idea will occur to me, so I'll go haring off after the new idea several times as they occur to me without going back and finishing the first article. Then it will take me some time at least a day or two to come back to the origional article and to get it finished. On the other hand though I will often finish two to five unfinished articles in short order because they are all but done already, just awaiting the finishing touches and then I submit them all en masse to both providers and end up with a lump sum payment instead of just one or two individual payments.

You will have to take down notes on the ideas that come to you. It is true that if we do not do this, we forget or about it and no matter how much we try, it will never come back to us again. It happens to me many times already. All that you have to do will be to bring you always a ballpen and a piece of paper or a small notebook so, you can immediately write them down.

This happens to me on occasion. Most of the time I just suffer from writer's block so when I have too many ideas I feel so lucky. I immediately write them down then write a brief introduction in the article. Once you have your intro you're set. It's best to complete your articles when it comes to you and worse when you force an article out.

You are absolutely right! I have done both and it is hard to pick up the thread of your article when you go to rewrite it.

Can there be anything as "too many good ideas?" I keep a special folder on my computer that's labeled "starts." I put all those half baked ideas there. Sometimes their just a sentence or two, sometimes full articles that need editing. I won't ever stop writing one article to deal with another, but I take notes and put them in that folder. Then when I'm through, I can go back to it, or pick up something else from there.

I do to, though my folder is named UNFINISHED ARTICLES and the number of articles contained within in just a very short period of time bugs me!

I always have half-finished articles or even articles that are nothing but a title and a few ideas for where it's going to go. Sometimes they get finished and sometimes they don't. Or they may even inspire new articles where they're about to go off track.

that doesn't bug you that you end up with all of those un-finished articles clogging up the space on your hard drive?

This happens to me all the time. I keep an Excel spreadsheet and a notebook to log ideas so I don't lose track of them. Often as I research and brainstorm an article I generate a ton of new topics on which to write. What sorts of articles do you write? Where do you submit? I've been looking for good submissions sites for articles. Sara

I submit content to assoc content and to Helium both of them are great sites to freelance for and they are both free to join. I am not sure if I am allowed to do this but here are links to both content sites: http://www.associatedcontent.com/join.html?refer=44261 I made 57 dollars from this site my first month January and I really like it! http://www.helium.com/tm/104988/hillary-needs-diplomatic-envoy http://www.helium.com/tm/104246/believe-black-people-other Helium the money is a little slower to build but the payments are in perpetuity

I do this as well. I think its a good way to work as it allows you to take time to double check factsm then come back with fresh eyes and correct the grammar and spelling. It also allows you to develop connections between ideas. One of the things I think is essential for an article writer is to convey a sense of the bigger picture. If you always finish an article as soon as you start it, you don't have the opportunity to mull it over for a few days and see if anything you have researched or written about previously can add anything to it. This is all about economy of effort and not reinventing the wheel twice.

I tend to have the opposite problem somewhat. I don't think of enough full ideas and often have time to write (or did earlier), but cannot think of anything to write about.

Is it just that you can't catch all of your ideas unless you write them down or do you have trouble bringing what is in your head out and onto paper?

Well Sharone, compliments.... you are a source od ideas.... me too I like writing, but my problem is that I'm very busy, my son is 7 and he needs me very much. I started two blogs, but I updated them the last time 7/8 months ago, what a shame.... I should spend less time here on myLot and more on my blogs.... or not?

Yeah... it eventually got to a point where I started a separate document simply named "scratchpad" so I could put down ideas (and phrases, and the odd paragraph) in a central place without feeling like I had all this "unfinished work" sitting around, calling out to me. At any given time, I probably have about 80-100 "in progress" ideas... ranging from "vague concepts" to "almost finished" articles. I really don't THINK I'm ADD, but who knows? :-D

That is a really good idea. I actually used to just keep a word document open at the bottom of my screen all day and do the same thing that you're describing now I just keep them all in a folder called unfinished articles.

I frequently have the same problem, but since I tend not to go back and finish articles, what I do is write down all my ideas. I have a massive list of article ideas categorized by topic (parenting, gardening, etc.) and when I canĀ“t think of what to write, I just take something off the list. By the way, what content sites do you submit to?

I find that it is best to finish the project at hand before moving on to the next. If I get bored with a project I always have other projects to work on, but never too many at the same time. I.e. One or two paintings, one or two writing projects and a carving project. If I have any bright ideas I always write them down in my book of bright ideas. Later on I go over them and see if I really want to work on them.

I have so many good ideas too but I have no more time to do them. My present work alone is more than enough for me until I breathe my last. I am a Christian, a child of God, baptized into Christ on October 1, 1989 and I belong to the Church of Christ founded and headed by Christ as shown in Acts Chapter 2. I am given the gift of knowledge and understanding Bible Greek and I translate the Word of God from Greek to English PLAINLY - Greek word into its English equivalent with additional words for grammar purposes written in italics so that readers may delete them when they so desire. I have already published GENESIS, EXODUS, LEVITICUS (Greek-English), THE WILL New Testament (Greek to English), ELEMENTS of SALVATION, The Right Way, GOD, ORIGIN, TRANSFER into PERFECTION, GREEK-ENGLISH (Grammar & Vocabulary), WORDS in THE WILL New Testament, and others shown at http://www.lulu.com/arseniajoaquin I have seen the versions being circulated worldwide and they are generally admitted to be 80% NOT translations. My translations are 99.99% translations and I see the truth, beauty, and sweetness of the Word of God. I hope these books could also help people understand the Word of God and be saved. I hope that you also read these books especially GENESIS, EXODUS, LEVITICUS (Greek-English) where our basic knowledge of everything originated.

You have to note down immediately the good idea otherwise you will forget all about it, so I'd say that you are doing it alright. In fact, I can see that this is all for the good as it turns out for you. Many good ideas crop up sometimes. It is so bad when it comes at a time when we are doing something else. There are times when I don't make any note of it and I play it over and over in my mind in the hope that I'll remember as soon as I'll be able to take hold of a ballpen and a sheet of paper. At most times however, I lost the idea somewhere in the process and it never will come back.

I have loads of ideas that go down the drain because I fail to take note of them. :( Ideas ranging from business, money making opportunities and a whole lot of stuff go through my mind all throughout the day. I really need to jot down and write specifically what I should do about them, so in case it slips my mind (which is very often), I can always take a look at it again and maybe do something productive out of it. I used to write short romance novels but never get to finish them. When I get to chapter 5 I start to run out of ideas and feel lazy to continue. On most tasks, unless my interest keeps on burning, I lose track and go on to the next task. I admire you for being able to finish all your articles despite of shifting to and fro from one article to another. I wish I could do that! I checked out both AC and Helium but I think they don't accept members from my country. Just organize your ideas and I'm sure you'll be doing more in a breeze. Keep up the good work! :)
