Well I had a knock on my door this morning from a neighbor and she had a note and a picture of the little chihuahua that I took in yesterday. well she has a owner. I deliver newspapers in the town that I live in and guess what I deliver a paper to this lady everyday but her dog is never out when we give her the paper. The dogs name was little lady and she is 11 years old and the woman said that she has had the dog since she was a puppy. I took the dog back home to the owner and she started to cry and then I cried the dog was so happy and glad to be back home. The owner is about 82 years old and said that the dog is her live she even had pictures of the dog and her on the walls in her house it was so touching to see that. so just to let all my friends that supported me and replyed thank you so much for all you careing and thoughtfullness. It was fun just to have her for a day I guess.

I just read your post from yesterday and I guess I had another comment to add. Please don't take offense, but after reading it, it really made me worried. 2 years ago I let my 11 year old Siberian Husky out late one night and she walked out the back gate my roommate's girlfriend so carelessly left unlatched and was missing for over a week. I was devastated. I'd had her since the day she was born, she was my best friend growing up, and I did everything with her. In addition to all that, she'd just been diagnosed with a rare spinal defect that left her partially paralyzed and in a lot of discomfort if she walked long distances and was a new citizen of the city, us having just moved there less than a month before. I made phone calls to vet clinics all over the city, called radio stations (proving very unhelpful, only one aired anything), put up posters, enlisted every person who's name I knew to help look and pestered animal control so much they knew my number by heart. I got lead after lead, helped 3 other dog owners find their missing Huskies, but still nothing on my dog. For a week I either didn't sleep, or cried myself to sleep, had no patience for anything not related to finding my dog and yelled at just about anyone that tried to offer their 'helpful' advice ("Of course I called the shelters!"). It was the toughest time of my life. Over a week after she walked out the gate, I got an odd phone call from a lady who claimed her friend might have my dog and had renamed it 'Sierra' and was planning to keep her. Her friend was leaving for an overnight business trip the next day and had asked that she keep Sierra for the night she would be gone. The lady told me she'd call the next day with some identifiers and if they matched, I could come get her. A dog owner herself, she understood what I was going through, and wanted to find the dog's true owner. The next night I sat by the phone waiting for the call. It came, she asked for Reba's tattoo combination in her ear and it matched. I picked her up 20 minutes later. But think of how it might have turned out? If that lady hadn't thought to make a phone call to animal control to find out if her friend was lying about looking for my dog's true owners, then Reba (who passed away in October) and I would have lost those last few years of her life together. All because she wanted to keep my dog. I do commend your efforts at making sure Little Lady was safe and not loose outside where so many things could have happened, but it's every dog owner's fear. I hope everyone keeps that in mind if they find a lost dog in the future.

I am right there with you I had a cocktail many years back and she was my best friend she ate with me took baths with me we were never apart and one day some guy scared her and she up and flew away never to be seen again. I lived a block from a park that had a petting zoo in it and I think that is where she went and I had her tagged but could never find her. but yes if you find an animale please look as hard as you can to find the owner before you really keep it. thank you for letting us be a part of your story.

That is totally AWESOM. Yeah I know you were hoping that no one claimed her but at the same time it must feel nice to know that she did have a home that she ran away from and you were able to return her home to her owner. What a wonderfull pet story.

Oh honey, I'm glad you returned the dog, but if it was with you, it still would have been one happy dog:) You had the good thought of taking care of something that didn't belong to you, that itself speaks volumes about your character..well done!:)

I would be crying too if I were you. In a way it's good for the little thing to find its way back home, but I would remind the old lady to put up a fence or something so the puppy can't run loose again. Next time it may not be so lucky.

it was so happy sad and the lady was like can I give you any money and I said no and then she gave me a hug and then cried some more. the owner lives by herself and the dog is the only thing she has.

aww...I'm glad she did find her original owner though. I know all too well how animals can get away from you. My lab pulled the leash right out of my hands before and I had to chase him all day to get him back. We got him at the pound and was actually run away.....gee I think I know why...lol But he'd been there 4 months. Plenty of time for someone to find him.

we have had a few from the pound where I live at we have to pay $5.00 a year for dog tax on them and every since then most people just let their dogs go because they did want to pay the money so there is a lot of strays running sometimes. it is sad. thanks for the support.

Well, I'm sorry honey, well I'm sure you wanted to do the right thing and what you did is right, but still you must be missing her, I'm sure. Even though she was with you for just a few days but dogs have a way of making a special place in your heart, no matter how short a time they are with you. At least you took care of her, until the owner found her. The owner's so lucky that you took the dog in and took good care of her. It's a great thing you did, twice, first for taking her in, and second for letting her go. I'm sure that must take some of those sad feelingsjavascript:__doPostBack('ctl00$cphMainContent$lbStart','') post response away.

You did well, I'm glad there is a happy ending to the story. A young lady drove around our neighborhood the other day stopping at every house asking people if they saw her little puppy that has gone missing. I saw the sadness in her face and there was nothing I could do. I told her that if I see anything I would let her know. I just wish she find her puppy like the old lady did.

Glad to see it wasn't a case of being dumped. I wasn't really sure that it was since you said Little Lady was just a little overweight but was overall fairly healthy. I still think it was a very nice thing you did to take her in and give her a temporary home. I'm sure you have also gained two new friends due to your kindness. :D

I'm happy to hear that you helped this lady re-unite with her dog. I am also really proud of you and happy that you gave this dog a warm place to stay and took great care of her for this lady while she was "missing". That was so sweet of you hoghoney, and I hope you know you helped make a difference! Way to go!

I had this happen with a kitten several years ago, except I had him for a week before I got a call about my posters. Good for you for keeping her safe and warm until they could be reunited!

awww..that's so sweet that the doggie was able to get back to her owner. Sorry you didn't get to keep her, but I have a dog that likes to jump the fence and run around the neighborhood, and if someone took her in and kept her and I never saw her again while she was running around one day, Id lose my mind. It would break my heart. She's my heart..my fav'rite puppy of the 3 of them I have. So, I'm glad you were ablet to find her owner and bring her back home. :O))

That was so sweet gesture hoghoney! Lucky that you are the one who found the dog because if other found it maybe they will not give the love and care the dog really deserve. That was so touchy moment being able to find the missing dog is something the old lady really dream and it turn out fine when you are the one find it. Such a honest and sweet person you are my friend.

That is a relief that the dog wasn't just dumped off in your neighborhood. That is fantastic that you reunited the little lady with her owner! That makes me so happy to hear that. Well, she had one heck of an adventure yesterday didn't she! I bet that lady was worried to pieces that Little Lady was missing for so long! Thanks for updating us on this!
