What is the most unusual fish that you have seen and why? I would say that the weedy seqa dragons from "Down Under" are the most unusual because of their complete ability to hide themselves. If yo were not looking for them you woud not see these relatives of the seaa horses.

It wasn't so much that they were rare fish, they were just really strange. When I was a child we used to frequent a restaraunt at a fresh water lake and they had a huge fish tank. It was stocked completely with local fish like trout, bass, sunfish, blue gills and the like. The difference was there was something wrong with all of them. When local fishermen would catch a fish with a deformity or a tumor or anything unusual about it, they would donate it to the Tank. It was a little scary to see what the water we swam in (and one of the places Budweiser gets their water) was doing to the fish.

Hi! I can say that the most unusual looking fish I own is an African Butterfly fish. I just got one yesterday. It is incredible, it looks like a swimming moth! So far it doesn't do much, just hovers at the top of the water. It's interesting to look at, though. :-)

That is a neat looking fish!! Looks like a sea horse with seaweed stuck to it's butt :) I think the elephant noses are kinda strange looking. Especially where their mouth is, above the snout/nose thing. Flounders are another that are kinda strange with their eyes on the one side. When they're young, one of their eyes will actually move to the other side of the head, very strange! I'm sure there's a lot more, I'm just too tired to think of anymore now :)

Every time I take a trip to Sea World, I am truly amazed at the large array of fish. To be honest unless I read the sign I wouldn't have guessed what I was looking at was a fish. My 12 year old son makes me feel a wee bit uneducated when we go because he can point out and name quite a few of these strange looking fish. It's kind of funny because he will be pointing at some strange looking object and I will be like HUH? I love going to Sea World. I think fish are awesome and I have to fresh water tanks in my house.

For me this would be the leafy sea dragon (Phycodurus eques). The first time I saw it to a photo I found it beautiful, but nothing special. But when I visited an aquarium for the first time, when I reached the tank of the sea dragon, at first I couldn't even distinguish it from the plants. When I read in the label that there are 3 Phycodurus eques in there, I spent like half an hour to spot all three of them, and I stayed amazed for at least another half hour. I so wish I could paste a picture here, it is just so beautiful!!! If you like, check this link, there is a nice photo http://www.tnaqua.org/Membership/Photo_Gallery/Sea_Dragon.jpg

Monkfish - The monkfish is related to the angler fish and almost as 'ugly' those teeth! that leathery skin and those blind eyes.
You won't see me puckering up to one of these.
actually seen myself would have to be the Monkfish. ewe, yuck! I would hate to meet up with one of these in the dark! supposed to be excellent eating though! could you imagine?
