When would you give up? Is it right to give up to the person you're helping but he doesn't want to get help?

That's a tough one for me. I am stubborn and don't like to give up...especially on someone that I am trying to help. It has burned me more than a few times in the past. Once with my own son. A person has to be willing to help themselves before you can truely help them. But, it is our human nature to try to help them anyway. With me I will give my all, everything I have to give; mentally, physically, and materially (if I have it). It's rough when the person you are trying to help doesn't reciprocate by taking responsibility for themselves and their own affairs after you have given so much. My husband has to literally reel me back in and put perspecitive on the matter that this person doesn't want the help and I need to step back. He is my best advisor, so I listen. I don't think I ever really give up on someone though. I may stop helping, but I continue to pray for them and send postive thoughts their way.
