I don't know if this is a dumb question or not...

Do you need a zipper foot to sew in a zipper? I'm just wondering if I can use my sewing machine or if I have to sew this by hand. I thought I'd ask in case I don't need a zipper foot - I'm naturally lazy, and besides, I haven't even bought the zipper yet.

It is easier to use a zipper foot. I always use a zipper foot.

Yeah, I'd imagine it would be - but I don't have a zipper foot, and we're kind of broke right now.

no, you can use a regular foot, but it is a little harder, and the flap over the zipper will be bigger. if you are putting in a zipper that separates like in a jacket, it is just as easy to use a regular foot as a zipper foot.

Thanks! I'm putting it into a bag, so I'm not too worried. I just didn't want to break my sewing machine. (And I'm lazy. Bad me.)

I've never used a foot zipper when sewing. I just use the normal needle thats in the machine, I suppose Im too lazy to change it. I only sew zippers by hand when Im mending. Quicker using the machine..

Not neccesarily. It is much easier to use the zipper foot, but it can be done. Sometimes the material you are sewing though can make it down right impossible to do with out. What material and object are you sewing the zipper on?

You really don't have to have a zipper foot. I have a machine that I don't have a zipper foot for, and I just adjust the needle position and work the zipper in that way. I haven't considered buyin a zipper foot for the machine because I plan in the near future to buy a machine for making clothes. The machine I have now I use for making teddy bears. It's a Bernina and a super work horse. If you are considering a zipper foot for your sewing machine, check your thrift shops! I am a great one for haunting thrift shops. It is amazing what you'll find there. Also, contact the local sewing machine shops. Very often they will have used ones that you can get for practally nothing.

well i have never tried to sew a zipper into anything but it is on the list of crafts for me to do i have alot of pattern designs that i want to make whenever i get the time on my hands that call for using a zipper in the pattern but no i do not think that you need a zipper foot to sew in a zipper i would imagine that you could use your sewing machine although depending on where the zipper is at it may be kind of hard to get to with your sewing mahcine so you might have to sew it in by hand
