I love working with cotton, but I love satiny fabrics too. cotton and fleece are super easy to work with

jdonovan I took a basic online course, and studied the wilton website for how to make flowers etc. I would love to take a Wilton course, but I'm a stay at home mom and just don't have the time. the classes are only on a weeknight, and interfere with dinner and hubby...

Do you use a pattern when you sew?

I did a while ago, but i never follow the exact pattern i always add stuff to it from other patterns or just completely do without them.

jdonovan Sometimes. It depends on what I'm sewing. Since I'm just a beginner, I started out using the pattern to the 'T'. But I've been getting brave enough lately to make changes.

jdonovan It always seems like when you have a deadline, its so much harder to get things finished. I have a shopping cart cover to finish for a baby shower gift who is due in May, then two more who are due in June.

jdonovan Wow, that is a tough situation you're in. Being that you are 26, you can do what you want and your parents CANNOT keep your son. But as previous posters have said, they could try to prove you unfit, but that would be hard. My husband and I lived 500 miles away...

Do you decorate your own cakes?? I love using wilton cake pans and really getting into it. I use all of the different icing tips and icings. I love cake decorating and would love to have my own business doing this for a living.

jdonovan I recently got into decorating cakes for my family. I haven't taken a decorating course, just teaching myself. I have tons of tips and tools and just do it for fun. Takes a lot of time and work, but fun for the occasional cake and holidays.

I have a fairly new BROTHER machine and a 30 year old SINGER GENIE. The BROTHER of course has more stitches and new fancy things on it, but hte old, reliable SINGER is great for straight stitching. What do you use?

jdonovan Not neccesarily. It is much easier to use the zipper foot, but it can be done. Sometimes the material you are sewing though can make it down right impossible to do with out. What material and object are you sewing the zipper on?
