I am looking to buy a new monitor that is a LCD screen and about 15" from what i understand this will reduce eyestrain and power consumption. How much will this cost and which is the best brand available. If I leave this on for about 6 hours a day will the life be reduced?

19 inch LCD is better, and I prefer SAMSUNG. In Malaysia, the cost usually in a range of RM600($150) to RM1500($395)

I bought my 15" from Wal-Mart for $150 in 2005. I would imagine they have come down in price since then. Mine is Proview brand and I am happy with it. I really good brand is ViewSonic. I know my husband paid $210 for his 19" high end gaming monitor by VeiwSonic.

I just recently bought a 19 inch monitor and I only paid about $180 for it. It is a LG and I really like that brand. I have quite a few things from them and I usually have problem with them. I got the monitor at Best Buy. If you try the online store you can sometimes get a better deal than they offer in the store.

just try to get an LCD with high contrast and brightness, as for the brand go with samsung, LG, viewsonic respectively. and if you're just going to use it for typing then no need to get those expensive LCDs with faster response time
