Homemade Doughnuts or Store Made?

Now that I may become employed at a donut shoppe, I wondered how many people have ever tried making doughnuts from scratch?
They really aren't difficult to make at all! There was a time, many years ago that I would make them at least once or twice a month, usually on a Sunday. My neighbors would smell them cooking and would often invite themselves over for coffee! The doughnuts I made were cake type and I would serve them plain or with cinnamon sugar. Sometimes I would add a chocolate drizzle on them. I have yet to try making raised doughnuts. That will be a project for when I have the kids over this summer. Better to make them and get rid of them before I get the chance to eat them!

So dear, you may get the job? I sure hope so.
Yes, I have made them from scratch. I must confess that store made is pretty good, but homemade is much fresher and better. It is very easy, I agree. I don't do it often, as it is so full of calories. But I do it sometimes. Thanks for the great post as always. +++ for you again.

My mom used to make homemade donuts pretty regularly for us. I always loved them. I have never tried to make them myself though. We rarely go out for donuts either. I did more when the kids were little and at home. Sometimes I get a real craving for a good donut. So when are you supposed to start work...how about shipping some of those donuts my way, lol. Yum, you just created a craving.

I used to make homemade doughnuts when my children were growing up. They were much nicer than the shop bought ones and they stayed fresh for longer. I wish you had posted the recipe here, as I gave away all my cookery books and you have just put the longing on me. I might try and find one on the internet and give myself a treat over the weekend.

The recipe would be great!
It is hard to find the right recipe for somethings,
and I would have a blast trying to make them.
If they were good...they would be scarfed down in no time! LOL :D

I haven't thought about homemade donuts for a long time. I never made them at home. When I was a kid my friends family made them every Sunday morning. I remember shaking them in a brown paper bag with cinnamon and sugar in it.. Oh they were so good..I would be afraid to make them now because I know I would eat them all...lol

Ya know...I live in Arizona and occasionaly I'll get a hankering for some really good Mexican food. While there, I'm amazed at the amount of Hispanics that are running around there and all I have to ask is, "Why are they here eating this food when they can go home and make it themselves?"
Same thing about the doughnuts, I guess. I'd like to try making mine from scratch, but if they're anything like my french fries, they'll be soggy and limp. No fun.

Honestly, I have never, EVER eaten homemade donuts. I've never known anyone who makes them. That's probably a good thing. LOL! There is a new donut commercial out right now for Tim Horton's and every time I see it I lick my lips. The good thing about the coffee shop that I go to for my writing group is they always have free samples on the counter. They are pieces of cakes, or pieces of eclairs... so I can just have a bite or two and I've satisfied my desire without the calories of having a whole eclair. Oh, how I remember having those when I was a teenager.

I used to make alot of homemade donuts from scratch. I used both the raised and unraised method. The reaised method was best because we filled them with jelly, jam and pudding. My husband's boss used to smell them and he aways came by for a few dozen to take home wiht him.

I've made my own cake donuts, they were definately better than any you can buy at the donut shop! It's really an easy recipe too, but I don't have a deep fryer anymore... They were so good with a bit of cinnamon.

I chance upon a report once that says that donuts are one of the most unhealthy food around. Typically, the main culprit is the sugar. So I guess if you home-make them, and leave out the sugar, it should be healthy enough.
But no, I am a big guy and cooking is just not one of my fortes. So I have not tried making a dough nut myself before. :P

I have never had home made doughnuts. I really liked Krispy Kreme but they are so sweet! I do like Dunkin Donuts better, they have a much better variety. Those are the only two donut companies I do like.

I have made donuts and they were good. Not the same as the donut shop though and definitely not as good as Crispy Creme. Fortunately we don't have much junk in the house and so we do not feel bad when we do buy a donut or two. Am glad you are working and hope that it is fun enough and that they appreciate you. Take care!!

I've got a doughnut maker that I won .. I've used it omce .. I'm not that keen on doughnuts .. maybe I would eat more of them if they were more readily available here in the UK .. but other than supermarket bought ones (usually days old and pretty stale) the only time I've ever seen anywhere selling them freshly made is at the seaside 50 miles away ..

Ohh I have never tried to make doughnuts at home. Even I have never eat a homemade doughnout. Personally I think some food are good from store only. Iy would be little difficult to make perfect doughnuts at home I guess. So, I would like them from store only.

The smell of the oil permiates the air and house when you are frying them. I can understand prefering store made. Less mess.
