Well, in my country of birth (the Philippines), 70-year old people can still teach in universities. In the university where I graduated from, I had a 65-year-old teacher in Spanish, and that professor sure has stamina! I also know of an 80-year-old History professor. I had a 60-year-old aunt who had tutored kids in her home. In my country, as long as you could still work, age is not so much of an issue. I'm not sure about here in the U.S., although I had seen some old men around here helping out in the cutting of trees and doing some odd jobs to help people out. Well, they're old but they're still strong. I know it's difficult but they still want to work, instead of wasting their time. My father-in-law is 80 years old and does online jobs. I don't know if I was able to give some input to your question, but then..Happy myLotting!

Thank you dear. In the USA, there is no use or respect for older people's wisdom, as other countries sadly. Thanks for you help sugar.

I do not know of anything other than factory work around here that makes $20 an hour. At seventy I would hope to find something that uses my brain.

Thanks honey. No body wants a brain anymore, or experience. They want a body of cheap labor.

What about teaching in a private college or school? They are usually more willing to be open towards age. I know a lady I worked with her Dad was almost 80 and was teaching at a private school. I can't remember if you said what your husband did but maybe he should look into some of the private colleges.

I found a couple of jobs online...but I didn't investigate them. Have you tried careerbuilder.com? I also found an arizona employment site. I hope these help some. I don't know what other skills your husband has besides optometry.. but there are some things listed in the career builder site. Good luck and God bless.

I would hate to think that I had to work at 70. A person is supposed to be enjoying retirement way before that age. Is there a job that pays $20. an hour? At that age we generally get stuck in retail, grocery stores. If I had to work, it would be in a bookstore.

Our economy stinks, and hard times hit the savings. So, no retirement here. Cannot live on less, and no assistants for help if one works. It's all messed up.

In our area, there are no jobs for someone who is 70. There are very few jobs and everyone wants young people because they are healthier. It is sad but that is the way it is here.

Only in the USA do we not respect the experience that elders have. It's so sad. We are not wanted.

I can only think of a couple people who make $20 an hour around here anyway.

Well, depending on finances, which I know probably aren't the greatest right now, but what about opening his own shop? That's a pretty big risk though, but if he had a good clientele before, it might work!! Or someone to go in business with him on it. I'll keep thinking......

Engineering, welder, these are the only two things that I could find. I wish you luck. There sure aren't many now that they farm things out overseas. There should be a law that any company cannot farm out the work we do for outside our borders. Be sure to let me know if you find anything.

I guess it depends on what kind of work you have done in the past. Some companies are looking for consultants who are older. I just saw a program where retirement is not so mandatory anymore. Companies want the experience of older workers.
It's hard to think of a $20 and hour job. Depends on the person as well. My dad is 73 and he still rides everyday and is very active on the ranch. I would pay him $50 for all that he knows and all that he does.

It will be easy for someone to work at 70 and earn much mor than $20 an hour? can you guess? The scientists make speeches. What they sell is their knowledge and experiences and wisdom. It's qite fair, cause they work for life to make that at 70
