Tonight's American Idol was pretty dissapointing.

What was up with them tonight? Gwen Stefani was the special guest and only two people sung songs by her. Lakisha sung a stupid Donna Summers song even though they did Donna Summers two weeks ago. Gina Glocksen was flawless singing I'll Stand By You, but I really wish she'd done Don't Speak. Jordin Sparks did Hey Baby, but it was only an OK performance. Chris Richardson butchered Don't Speak. Overall I was just hoping for a better night. I honestly don't understand why the contestants keep singing such old songs. This was their chance to sing songs by a popular modern singer, and yet half of them sung songs that were over 30 years old.

I love all the songs they are doing now! In my opinion the music that came from that era is better than a lot out today.

Hmmm maybe No Doubt songs are hard to sing :) Not many people can sing perfectly in rock alternatif like Gwen, she/he must have special characteritic to do that. But glad to see that Jordan dan Richardson try to do that even in they style.. and others maybe not won't to take a change.. Maybe will be looked like Sanjaya :D But... noted that Gwen is sooooo pretty in that night :) and she is professional artist that can adjust the situations, in formal way or not formal way :)

Gwen was pretty last night. Of course, I always think she is beautiful. She could dress in a bag and still be pretty...lol. I can't wait to see her preform tonight :)

It was supposed to be songs that inspired Gwen not songs that inspire the contestants. Personally I think it is great that they are given a list of songs they may not particularly like but they have to chose between them. If they got to pick songs they were all good at, we wouldn't ever see a bad side of them or realize that they can still sing it even when they don't care for the song. And frankly, I think the ones that sang No Doubt songs were VERY brave. Have you tried to sing one of those yourself and have it come out even close to what Gwen sounds like??? She is phenomenal and a lot of people can't pull it off and make it sound how we think it should.

The theme of the night was music from bands that inspired them... they sung songs from bands like The Police and The Cure, bands who set the stage for No Doubt. Lakisha sung a Donna Summers song, true, too bad it was Diana Ross she sung two weeks ago, not Donna Summers. Besides, it was different to see her go from a power ballad to something a little more uptempo, like the judges mentioned. Melinda was still Melinda, Phil Stacey did a admirable job with The Police's "Every Breath You Take." Besides, why would people like Blake or Melinda sing songs from Gwen Stefani or No Doubt, it doesn't suit their style to begin with. If they had done that, it would have been a worse result than them singing the songs that they did sing.

Oops, my mistake, Diana Ross, Donna Summers... neither are my taste. I have no problem with the singers wanting to do their own style, but the show FORCED the contestants to sing Diana Ross songs and then changed their tune when Gwen Stefani was there. Why do they force them to sing old music when Diana Ross is there, but allow people to choose old songs when the guest is a modern singer like Gwen Stefani? It really feels like they are trying to make it easy for Melinda and Lakisha who prefer old songs. It's obvious that those are the judge's favorites.

I loved last night's performances...I really like Chris Richardson and I thought he did a good job singing a soulful, r&b version of Don't Speak. GINA is back! yay! i really like her and i love when she does power ballads..she does great! Some of the contestants do seem like "old souls". But I love Melinda and i think there's very few people that think she shouldn't win, but how often does a continuously strong (and best) singer win the competition? Hardly ever. Tamyra Gray. Clay Aiken. Latoya Lunden.

Chris isn't a bad singer, but I felt he killed that song. He didn't sing it with any emotion. He was actually smiling through most of the song. He also forgot the words at one point, but that has been pretty common on the show lately.

I agree-- I would totally disappointed by the whole show except Phil Stacy and Gina. My 2 favorites are Blake and Chris Richardson. I think they will both be safe this week- But this was there week to shine. They are both better at more newer songs.. Blake is always talking about how he is making the song- Now-- I would have loved for someone to sing Holla Back Girl! I cannot believe someone didn't do it- I personally thought jordan did a terrible job. The judges thought she was great but I was not impressed.

Well I feel American Idol is coming a joke. A few good singers have been voted off to leave one singer who has not tried at all. He is get votes from young girls that does not care about the singing. The judges have even stop putting down his sings and his sing so he will not get petty votes but he is still there... I love the fact the we can help vote in a new singing and maybe tv star. That may not have had a chance without being on American Idol. I feel the last year was just off the wall with the wrong person winning.Who voted for him ? This year Oh my god, Let the young boy go home please..Last week I said I was not going to watch American Idol anymore. Think somehow they are going to how to may sure people know they are voting for a singer not a crush. If not I think Anerican Idol rates will start to drop in the years to come. I do not know who is texting those votes but we need to find them. Then find away to transfer those votes somewhere besides American Idol...I have not agreeed with all the winners but last year was a shock to me and the second year was a shock too. This year it is like it's beconing a comedey...I like Gina, Chris. and Jordon . I hope they all get recording contracts.I will buy thr cd's...I think all most all of them are good with the right songs. As for Melinda she has been on stage before so it should come a lot easier for her than some of the others.. I am sure most of them will have hits but I would like to see an American Idol who is young enough to sing todays music for the youger adults. You all have to admit it is due time for a younger one to win if the voice is there.Kelly was the youngest of all of them and she has been a hit. I think it is a shame and should tell america something when the runners up / contestants from the top 12. Have a better singing career than the winners... But that is just how I feel...

Last night was the first time ever of watching "American Idol"...and I was amazed. I don't remember the people, but the one that was wearing the knitted hat and married did a fabulous job. I loved that black woman that sang with all her heart. I don't care what Simon said about her dress. Jordin Sparks is from my city and I was...ashamed of what she sang and what she looked like. Those LARGE hoop earrings were so vulgar, but it matched with the song. I thought that was Gwen. She keeps looking younger and younger everytime I see her.

i agree, i have no one to vote for this season, they are just mediocre singers no real stars in this show right now...

I don't think that the singing this year is nearly as good as in the past few years. I even heard my teen say that she didn't care if she watched it or not. I think Melinda is the only one who hasn't missed a beat this year and I persoanlly like Phil, but I don't think he will win. Not only the songs last night, but what was up with the mohawk?

I don't think the singing is too bad, but most of the contestants seem kind of dull. I agree that Melinda hasn't missed a beat, but she doesn't have what it takes to be a star. She needs more than a good voice. The worst year was that year that Fantasia won. There were maybe four good singers in the top 12 that year. The rest completely stunk. As for that mohawk... Sanjaya knows he stinks and his hair is his best chance of staying in the competition. I can't blame the guy for pulling out all the stops. It's no different than Haley showing off her body to distract people from her singing. The only difference being that I enjoy looking at her. Sanjaya is just disturbing.
