I watch the news everday because I like to know what's going on in the world. I know there are a lot of terrible things going on in the world but there are good things too. I remember when a lot of the local news stations around here used to kind of make a point to do at least one really good kind of "human interest" story each night.
Now I've been noticing that those types of stories aren't being done anymore. They seem to have been replaced by stories about celebrities and their "problems". Stories about people like Anna Nicole and Britney Spears and their drug and alcohol problems. I mean Anna Nicole's funeral got more coverage than President Ford's did. I mean c'mon, he was the leader of the free world at one time. She was a Playboy Playmate with a drug problem. Why is that more important?

I am not in the slightest bit interested in Anna Nicole and Britney Spears, and other people like them. I also get annoyed when the media focus more on these people, than on real important events.
I guess, while there is a huge segment of the world's poulation that are very interested in the comings & goings of movie & sining stars, this focus by the media is not going to change. They will do what they do to get their ratings.
The only way this will change is if ordinary people stop watching boring rubbish.

I respect your opinion. I don't agree but that why I like people who aren't afraid to speak the truh about what's really on peoples minds. I know everyone will never agree on everthing so thanks for shooting from the hip and being honest here. I have great respect for you for being straightforward. I don't take anything personal if they don't share my openion. For that reason I put in a pending friend request for you. If you want tosend one to me I'll be sure to approve you. I reallyliked your response. It was nice and right to the point. I admire that in my friends.

Yes, they do. It is time to get on with something else. Their personal lives should be a lot more personal. They do not need all this extra attention. I wish they would just get back to the regular news stories.

I guess the media has nothing better to do than all this stupidity, if they dont have some major news then they concentrate on all this NOT SO important things and make it the headlines

I feel the media is particularly spending too much time on this two celebrities, for Gods sakes, its their lives and they choose to live it that way and i feel its not right, even if they are celebrities, they are humans too. Since they dont seem to have any moral lessons, i guess the media should look for more exciting stories that increases moral lessons.

It is a troubling trend. They want to spice up the news so more people watch. And what is happening is they're not covering the REAL news, it's all becoming fluff and puff crap. It's helping the stupidity of the nation, it has nothing to do with education anymore unfortunately. I am to the point I only watch the news for weather and traffic. That is it.

Oh you hit one of my nerves! Yes, it is getting old hearing about the shenanigans of these folks. I could care less if Britteny shaves her head or if Anna took a fistful of medicines. I would rather hear about 'random acts of kindness' or some crafty person who has made a living out of gourd art or something! Why are we so obsessed with these 'stars' (and I use the term loosely) problems? To continue to discuss them seems to almost glorify their issues! It is the same with how we pay these professional athletes and college coaches millions of dollars while people starve in our country and many elederly patients of mine have to choose between medicines or food each month. Ohhhh I get so angry.

Well thank you. I appreciate that. As I said, it is such a issue for me, that it wasn't hard to do!

It's more of gossip these days, it's sad. I wish these programs could use those precious air time minutes to divulge better and more meaningful news...why not do stories on the plight of the people behind the camera like the props men...camera guys...and the like. Are their salaries addressed well? Do they have benefits? But then again these are stories that don't appeal to other people in the world. Some would rather have the updates on Britney's shaved head. Sad.

more and more people are having nothing to do these days, especially those young people, and they have to find a way out so that they wouldn;t feel bored. and those celebrities have become their first choice , they wannna know what is happening to their loved ones. and so tv and a lot of other news media have to spend so much time reporting the issures you mentioned, just for the young people's need. i am not too old yet, and i used to watch such kind of programs when i was younger. but now i have just graduated from my college, and i find myself no longer interested in such kind of reporting. i have a lot of work to do and a lot of things to finish, life and love and there is a lot more is waiting for me. so i am unable to focus my attention on such kind of boring reporting. and i have to mylot as a way of my extra income, so how is it possible that i can squeeze time watching such kind of reporting?

No, the media doesn't spend too much time on Brittney, Anna Nicole, Paris Hilton et al because society asks for it. Society asks for knowing every minute detail of these celebrities' lives.

Well, tabloids and newspapers love celebrities and their antics as they attract eyeballs to an otherwise boring and staid newspaper. Newspapers all over the world gather more or less the same news as far as world events and politics are concerned. Several of them use syndicated feeds without even changing or modifying them a bit, so what sets them apart from another rival publication? That's where the juicy gossip columns and celeb news comes in. If Britney forgets to wear her underwear or gets her head tonsured, newspapers try their best to get the first 'breaking news' reports and photographs. Apparently there is big time money involved here, so the media moguls throw better sense and ethics to the winds and go ahead and publish that trash. Well, if there is a market for it, why not? That's their rationale.

I must say I am guilty. But that was before. I mean, I also reached the point where like almost everyday I been keeping myslef posted with the buzz among these celebrities. But fortunately, I also get tired and I had enough of them.
On the other hand, we have the choices as to what kind of news we would like to indulge in. All news sites got plenty of features like, politics, entertainment, lifestyle, technology,etc..It's not all about these little craft about the celebrities. We are given plenty of choices and its up for us to find news that are informative and helpful.

You have raised a very important issue here. We have made celebrities of people who have little talent or value as role models. Yet, mainstream news highlights their every move and evaluates and dissects every aspect of their lives. I not only feel this is counter-productive to our culture, but it drives these celebrities to become more irresponsible by self-medicating themselves because their every move is splashed across tabliods and television stations all over the world.

If it is sensational, they will. It makes money for them, and that is all they care about.

yeah i got your point..but the thing now adays is that bad news always creates news or their newspaper sells a lot if the headline is something bad and the likes..havent you notice that?/ nobodys going to comment if the headlines is about the success or anything good that contributes humanity it sells alright but not so good compare to headlines of destructions ,rapes and etc..journalism now a days is a little bit bias in terms on news reporting..they scoop which they think it will be a blockbusters..in sales that is..

I totally agree with you. Too much hype is given to some of these celebreties and most of it is negative and giving our children the wrong message. They look up to these people and exposing all their problems and faults are not doing any good for the kids.

Yes i also think the same way. Media covers all the details of those kind of news especially that of celebrities. They try to cover till the meanest detail of everything related to celebs. And in India there are few new channel which sits on the news for not a reasonable time but for days.
There is a comptition among the channels to cover the nitty gritty in the name of exclusive pictures being shown by xyz channel.
And this leads to misrepresentation or manipulation of facts.
