we can discuss this more fully when i get back in to yahoo or at least make it work as it should. I too think we are to a large extent in charge of our own destiny and make of life what we will. However, what of those who are born to great wealth, are we really saying that they make their own life?

There are those who are born with a 'silver spoon in their mouths' and although most have their own minds I suppose protocol rules their lives for them, but i wonder if they would prefer to rule their own. How many have turned their backs on the wealth that they were born into? I supppose they live life the only way they know, following ancestors but, are they all making mistakes tc sorry about yahoo speak soon babe xx

none of the two extreme versions, they seem too strictly deterministic to me. What I think is that we can play a very big role in our lives, and that we can drive them a way or the other in a pretty big proportion, but on the other hand...Well, there are too many other components that don't depend on us : from the place and condition of birth, to the phisical and mental shape. Historical conditions, health conditions...but also the same experience circumstanes we find ourselves in are partly conditioned by something that doesn't stand under owr control. To sum up, I would say that the way life goes is a complex mix of our actions, orientations; it is partly the result of the expression of ourselves in a way, but not alone..there are also many influences , occasions, obstacles which are not strictly under our control, but That wa can still interpret, manipulate , face in way or the other. I don't think there is fairness or equilibrium in the way chances to determin or to be determined are distributed from person to person, or even in the life span of a single person

Probably both things. You can make your life for a big part but there is also a part coming from your background, your family (your DNA?), something that is inside you. So you can do and change your life but not totally.

your response makes sense to me and i thank you for it. I too believe there are talents that we are born with that, at different times in history, are more saleable than others

I absolutely think that life is what you make of it. I think that only you are in charge of your own destiny.
I can't believe in fate or else I won't work hard at my life to make things work out.

I believe that there is a little of both involved in everyone's personal successes or failures in life. I personally believe that if someone wants something enough and they have the brain power to accomplish it that they will pull together the resources to do so.

certainly, this is my experience too, but how do those born to wealth fit in with this idea? they dont appear to make their own lives?

Life is what you make of it.
What is success anyway? Every person has their own standards for success - for some it could be to be married and live happliy ever after, for others it could be a rewarding career and to others, power and wealth.
Im not materialistic so power and wealth are not issues to me but I think I have made a success of my life. I have found a partner I love, I have a career I enjoy and Im healthy.

I think it is half and half
There is only you that can make your Life and only you that can make Mistakes. But there is Fate that puts you to test and then it is you that needs to make it or break it.
You either fight and make your Life or you just sit back and break it.

I definitely think life is what you make of it. There are numerous "failures" that are born into money and every opportunity available yet are not strong enough as a person to make something of themselves. There are others that overcome poverty, bad family life and so much more to become successful people in many ways. I also think life is what you make of it when you decide how to handle life. If everything is half empty to you, your life is going to be half empty. If you learn how to take your punches and make the best of it.. you will always be half full.

I totally believe life is what you make it, you have choices in your life and it is totally up to you what you do with the choices that are played in front of you, which will result in the outcome of sucess and failure, if you keep a positive attitude I believe you can make things happen if you want them, but negativity only cause failure.

I firmly believe life is what you make it. Success is very much up to the individual. So is the way you define it. The happiest person I know looks like a failure to the rest of the world. He lives in a home, he built himself, no running water, heats with wood. Works for periods of times, but has all he wants. He is living his life, his way. Of course not all of us would be happy with as little, I know I wouldn't. I did think long and hard about exactly what I wanted most in my life, what I was willing to do to get it. I am one of the most contented people I know. I see things in life I don't like, I work some to change them. But behind these house doors it it my way all the way..

I believe every one is born with a purpose in life, other things good or bad are the channels that lead us to the ultimate goal, and after getting the goal there is no way further. So the journey to the purpose is life, and what we do during our journey lies in our hands, weather u plant roses or thorns, wheather u clear the wayfor others or block with boulders, we'll meet lot of good samatarians onthe way and lot some bandits too .. but its a journey through the forest with our path guided by the moon and our destiny laid by the stars...

I think life is really what I make it. There were times when i thought life was about making a lot of friends and merriment, and true enough, for the past 3 out of 5 years of my life it has been so. For the more recent 2 years, I thought life as a more mature, more grown up thing with more responsibility. And true enough, with more of those thought, more success and more money came.
I think everyone is born to be a success, or rather and thing that they want to be. Those people who get pushed around will never get successful. Cos they have no path to success.

We all have choices. And, choices are beautiful things. We get to make decisions every day that have the possibility of improving or hindering our lives. We do the best we can, and hopefully we are happy with what we've done.
Even in pain there is beauty. We need to realize that even those things we don't like about our lives, we can learn from. We have the power to improve those things. And, we can make our futures brighter. I believe that everyone has the ability to live well. It may not be easy. For some it's far more difficult than others. But, that ability is still there.

I definitely think life is what you make of it. There will always be crises and problems, and if you look closely, they afflict pretty much everyone (though some are good at concealing their problems). What distinguishes winners and losers is how they deal with things when they go wrong. Some people take it on the chin. Others are swamped. Attitude also determones whether you are happy and content, or unhappy and discontented.
