Would anyone BUY an album from Lakisha or Melinda?

These two are clearly the judge's favorites, but would anyone buy their albums? Obviously they get alot of votes because they have powerful singing voices and the judges love them, but all the songs they sing are old and no longer popular. Everyone, including me, loved Ruben, but his songs were never played on the radio, and nobody bought his album. Fantasia's biggest accomplishment was a made for TV movie about herself.
I think it's a waste of the show for someone to win who can't make a popular record. Kelly Clarkson and Carey Underwood are such big hits that many of their fans don't even realize they started on American Idol. Chris Daughtry came in something like 4th place and has had more sales than the top two from last year combined. From this year I think Gina Glocksen and Jordin Sparks have the best chance of becoming successful artists, but there's definitely a good chance that neither of them will be in the top two.

I like Lakisha and Melinda and I do think they have powerful voices. At this point, though, I'd probably not buy any albums that they'll make. They may be uberly praised by the judges and while they do have great voices and all, I think they still have so much to prove. Plus the packaging --- they still have to find a specific "packaging" for them to carve a niche of their own.

Of course, they're awesome singers! They just wowed the crowd! I would personally buy melinda's album. She's a very humble singer and she sings from her heart ;)

Well, I Love Jordin Sparks, and she is an awesome singer. I would Love to see her in the Finals but only time will tell. As for Lakisha, and Melinda... I cannot really see myself buying Melinda's CD as I am not too thrilled with the type of Music she sings. I like Lakisha, so it would have to depend on what type of Music is on her CD.
As for being an American Idol winner and selling a lot of CDS, I feel it is up to the Public and what they prefer. Personally, from last season there were a lot of Great singers, and I am Glad to see them with CDS coming out. Chris was not the only one to do well. Look at Kelly Pickler as well. I think we have not quit seeing last yrs. idols. Most of them have a Big potential, compared to this yrs. competition to go far.

It totally depends on what type of music they put on the albums. I would probably buy an album from Melinda just because she has such a terrific voice and really puts emotion into her singing. Lakisha, I think needs to head straight to Broadway, where I think she would thrive.
I think that Gina will have a nice career as well as Jordan, and I personally would buy a record from Phil because I just love the tone of his voice, but I think that Blake has the best shot at selling the most albums becuase of how creative he is with remixing songs.

Yes I would buy a album from Lakisha and defintely Melinda since she is my top favorite. Her voice is flawless and absoultely amazing. I'm glad that she decided to break out as a solo singer instead of doing background because vocally she stands out.

i totally agree with you. i always proud to say that i'm melinda's biggest fan, yet i never think about this matter before. now i realize that i only admire melinda's voice and her humble personality probably during AI season only. but i never imagine myself buying her CD next year....(_

Another thing I wanted to point out is how absolutely awesome Phil's voice is, but he just looks very strange and therefore probably will not be the next American Idol.

I do feel Phil's performance was one of the best last week. In my opinion he was second only to Gina Glocksen. I think maybe he's just a bit too soft spoken to be memorable. Also, the judges don't lavish him with praise the way they do Melinda and Lakisha.

They surely don't and you're probably right...he may be a little too soft spoken. I can't lie, I'm not a huge Gina fan. She does have a great voice, but if she chooses the wrong song...she is gone. I LOVE JORDIN!

Album sales for anyone one are way less than in the past due to the internet and dowloading always rising. As for Melinda and Lakisha, they are good but boring. I think Jordin and Blake are the two most interesting and capable of having interesting albums.
Fantasia is still having success though other than a tv movie you mentioned she is headlining a major broadway show right now.

I agree with you completely. I think LaKisha and Melinda would suffer a the Ruben/Fantasia fate. They do have amazing voices, they are literally vocal powerhouses, but they are Aretha Franklins in a world of Gwen Stefanis and Ashlee Simpsons. Not to say that Gwen and Ashlee aren't good, but they are more pop and less powerhouse.
I personally dislike Gina and Jordin, though. I find Gina kind of fake and I don't know what it is about Jordin, I just don't really like her.

I agree 100% with this- I really don't like either of them-- their singing styles anyways- I'm hoping that America sees this and remembers from Fantasia and Ruben and even Clay-- and votes them out- I think Blake or Chris Richardson would be great winners- I would definately buy an album of theirs.
Look at Chris Daughtry-- he was great- got knocked out and is doing wonderful.. I think someone will pick up Gina too! Now that she is gone.
Idol has turned out some great singers- Carrie Underwood, Kelly Clarkson, Kellie Pickler (ok so I dont like her but people do), Chris Daughtry, Bo Bice, Josh Gracin (love him). I can't see either Melinda or Laquesha doing well.

yes definitely. they have the best voice ever especially melinda. while others are struggling the scream their voice out, melinda just sang like it was part of her routine chores!and it works everytime. lakisha can get overboard sometimes. In Malaysia, the Idols that got the most coverage is Kelly Clarkson and Chris Daughtry. the rest of them are like zombies.

Although they have good voice, but not my type, so if I have to compare buy Lakisha or Daughtry album, I will choose Daughtry.
But I must admit that they are good singers, maybe if hear from radio, I will like it.

i think lakisha and melinda are good singers and people could buy their albums just like the old idols u can see chris his album was sold to much and also liked lakisha and melinda are good singer they need to be polished a bit more but they can do much better in future as a singer

I agree with you. i do belive that the 2 of them sings alot of old songs and I for one have not heard many of thme, beeing all young and all *hehe*
i do belive that they both can hit it big if they have more newer songs, but they just might once they get a record-deal!

I agree with you on this --I don't think I would buy an album from either one. While they can both belt out a song, copying someone else is easily done. I don't know any really big singing star that doesn't also write their won material. Also I think personal appearance is a big seller, and these two women are not in good shape. Perhaps that's why they opt for the older songs, were they don't have to dance around and work the stage.

I completely agree. My husband and i were just saying last night that in order for either one to be a hit they would either need to be a star in the 70's or sing gospel. I love their voices, but how much diva soul singing can you hear on an album.

I think Lakesha and Melinda will do very well with their careers and if and when they make albums they will sell well as did all the other artists from AI. Rubin has a good fan base and even though his songs are not played much, his albums still sell very well. However, I do agree that winners don't equal record sales. This is true for those artists like Clay Aiken who came in second and outsold other winners. I will say this for Melinda and LaKesha; they have a good chance of being on Broadway because of their big voices and stage presence.
