My son loves Orcas. He was telling me that there are different types of Orcas in the ocean and he wanted to know how many different types there were. I didn't know that there were different types and I was wondering if anyone out there knew how many different species of Orca there are and how do you tell them apart?

Yes well apparently there are hundreds and in Tysfjord, people have seen them there. I always thought that there were only one kind but apparently that is not right as this is what they are saying here. I would not know how they tell them apart.

It depends on what you mean by whale.Whale can mean two different things the big animal or cetacean, which is the group that includes whales, dolphins, and porpoises. There are over 80 of those but only about 14 of those are the bog whales. To name a few there are the fin, blue {largest},humpback, sei, gray, bowhead, right, sperm, and the pygmy right {smallest}.

Well there are two main types of Orca, transients and residents. Transient whales tend to travel through all oceans, whereas resident whales tend to stick to the same sort of waters. Transient whales tend to be more aggressive then resident ones, why this is I'm not sure. Apart from that, that is the only different type of Orca's that I know of.
