What do you like to bring to potluck dinners?
Do you rotate between a few known and favored dishes or do you tend to try something new?I love to make things for potluck, even when I am not going. Sometimes my husband will have a function at work, and instead of asking me to make something, he will just pick up a few bags of chips and beverages or cutlery and paper plates.
I know he thinks asking me would be a burden to me, but I really do love it, and i am kind of embarrased when I find out he brought chips.... like what am I here for? Let the bachelors or the youngsters bring the chips and plates.

I like to make a dessert, like squares. My husband always asks me to make things for him to take to work, sometimes not even for a function but if he knows it's going ot be a busy day, just something to give everyone a little treat.

I just love buffets and or smorgyboards. Usually at work when he have a function, I will bring different things. My favorite things, are chili, and or a mexican caserole. I also like fried chicken, and or turkey with stuffing. The more foods the better. It is great to eat like that, because you can choose what you want, and eat what you want, and get to sample different foods.

Well... I'm actually a GUY, but I have to tell you that I would only bring chips to a potluck if I was invited with just a few hours notice, and simply didn't have time to bring something else. I guess I have my mother to thank for that, in her belief that "I'm not gonna send any 'helpless men' out into the world!"
Anyways, back in college we did a lot of potlucks with an extended group of friends, and somewhere along the way I got a reputation for making "killer potato salad" and somehow that has "stuck" with me, for 25-odd years.... especially if the potluck involves BBQ or grilling, in some form. If the occasion is a little more "formal" or serious, I also do a pretty good baked salmon with vegetables and wild rice that just comes in a baking dish and seems to get snapped up, pretty quickly.

hmmmmmmmmmm
the last pot luck thing I was invited to was when I was 17 I think
I made a hefty loaf of bread for it
just what was in my knapsack, I used to bake one like that anytime I planned to be away from home for a few days
, i usually had 2 or $3 in my pocket, still was nice to have that bread as backup food, for sharing too
For a keg party once a roasted a turkey and made tons of fallafel, maybe that counts, I think it wa sthe only food there. That turkey got picked clean, no plates or utensils.

I try to do something healthy like a big salad so I know there will be one diet thing. But then my naughty side I love to take chocolate chip cheese ball. or these yummy ranch pretzles. All 3 are a hit!

For potluck dinners, I usually rotate between a few tried and true dishes that we all love. One is called "tater tot casserole" (made with stew beef, tater tots, cream of celery soup and cheddar cheese soup), another is shrimp creole, and a third is my baked beans. It really depends on what everyone else is going to bring. I try to complement the whole thing with whatever I bring.

I have a dish that is often requested and so therefore I usually don't have to think of what to bring-a Chinese Cabbage Salad. It has chopped green cabbage, green onions, slivered almonds and top ramen noodles. The dressing is made of white vinegar, soy sauce, sugar, and oil. It is alittle time consuming but is well wroth it-so I have been told! I rarely make it here at home because it makes so much, but I don't think I have ever come home with leftovers from any potluck!

I vary what I bring. I like to try new things as well as tried and true ones. One of my favorites is Taco soup. It is a hit but not with my family!LOL If I am going to a family get together I take cole slaw, deviled eggs; sweet potatoes, or yams. I then may take some thing else also. from time to time I will take the Turkey, we always have turkey at all big deal get together

I love potlucks. When I went to church regularly, we went either to the church potluck or had one at home and brought people home with us. Some of my favorite things to make for potluck [OR for me to EAT at potlucks] is that green bean casserole with mushroom soup and those crunchy fried onions. It's quick, easy and yummy. Another potluck favorite is corn casserole. It's made with cream corn, corn bread mix, eggs, sour cream and it is super yummy. Those two things are always gone when they get taken to potluck. One yummy potluck treat is the pistachio pudding mix and pineapple and miniature marshmallows? It's so good. These three things are our favorite potluck dishes but since we no longer attend many potlucks, we have tried to make them our birthday favorite food dishes to make the birthday meal special. This is mostly for my adult daughter that I do this.

I have three clamoured for dishes. If it is a finger food affair, people like my devilled eggs and my spinach dip recipes. If it is a bigger meal, I make a cheesy twice baked mashed potato dish which everne raves about.

Well since a lot of people take green bean casserole and other such items I try to go for dessert or something some kids would like. Since there are kids at these potlucks and most of them don't like the stuff that is being served I fix macaroni and cheese. It's great and kids love it. Or I'll go for a cake or pie.

oh what a good idea, you know, it is unique too - I do not believe I have seen mac and cheese at a potluck affair. At my mother's place they had a pot luck where someone made an onion dish that was just like mac and cheese, only had onions instead of macaroni. It was really good, but I doubt any little kids would be interested in that! lol.

I definitely like to vary my contributions to a pot-luck.
For instance, we have one coming up here in the office for Easter. I will probably go with something easy but tasteful... but it won't be a jambalaya. I did that last time (my grandma's family recipe) so I want to vary what I have to offer. I can do a number of pastas, maybe a finger food... I always like to have something there that is a little better than the chips or the sodas, sometimes ending up being someone else's choice to get out of it or last-minute choice.

i'll generally see what other people are getting so i do not repeat what is alredy being made and try to make a variety dish. For example if most of my the group is north indian i'll try some south indian dish, and vice versa so that they get to know of new cuisines. In our country each area has a distinct cuisine and cooking style of its own.

I like the potluck picnics , usually hubby will make baked beans and maybe a taco or pasta salad. I don't care to cook but something easy isn't bad.
