Bedrest again...what about the boredom...

I just had my leg operated on again, this is the second time since November, and the Doctor has sent me home from the hospital with strict orders to remain on bed rest for at least 2 weeks, right now I am as I have been all day sitting in front of the computer typing away, but I am getting so bored, not being able to do anything else, does anyone have any suggestions as to what they would do in this situation, have you been put on bed rest before and if so what did you do to pass the time. I have to keep my leg elevated at all times to prevent clotting and speed the healing process....my leg feels fine but my mind is not doing so good.

I would go a bit nuts myself if I were confined to bed rest--but maybe as was suggested by a few--stack up on a lot of books and look at it as an opportunity to catch up on all the reading you may have promised yourself--are you of the creative sort?--do you paint? write? If you don't paint, hey maybe you could look at it as an opportunity to fool around and try your hand at it. writng--believe it or not I'm a writer....and I prefer writing by long-hand! Yup, the old fashioned way with a pen and wads of paper--try it--maybe there are a few short stories kicking around in your mind..actually the possibilities are endless...just be creative and give it a go.

Hang in there my friend. I hope your leg heals in rapid time. Follow the docs intructions so that you will be up and able to do the things you love to do. I know two weeks feels like it is an eternity, but just think about what you'll be able to do when two weeks is over. Make yourself a list of things you want to do...everytime you think of something new, jot it down, no matter how silly it seems. Keep the ongoing list by you in bed or on your bedside table. Take a break from the computer, and read or write, or draw. If you can, engage someone in a good old fashioned game of cards. I hope this helps some. You are in my thoughts my friend. Blessings your way.

Oh dear, that just stinks. I have been on bed rest like you wouldn't believe..lol I had flesh eating bacteria in 2000 and was in the hospital from Nov. till the end of March...then at home from work for a year after that. I now have gotten cellulitis in my left leg so many times I sleep in a hospital bed..still. I use the computer, watch TV, read, do word searches, crossword puzzles...etc. I also have a huge supply of colored pencils and my sketch book..I'm not very good but it's something to do. I also use the colored pencils to color adult type coloring books...there are some with pretty decent pictures to color...hehe If the weather is nice you could set yourself up outside on a lounge chair..I did that quite a few times. I don't think it matters how much you have to occupy yourself with, it still gets insanely boring.
Keep that leg up though...you don't want to be down any longer than necessary...good luck, heal well and God bless.

Wow,,,,onds like you have been put through the wringer too, I had once been put on bed rest for 10 months back when I was only 9 years old, I was in a bad fire and burned really bad, so of course I had no choice but to be on bed rest and most of the time I was under morphine anyway....this is where this leg operation started from, old burn wounds that are not healing and are getting infected, so they have to skin graft them again, this is twice now the first time didn't work back in November, hopefully it works this time.

Oh jeez that's kind of my problem too. My scar tissue from where the graphs meet the regular skin keep splitting. Then I get cellulitis..it's never ending..I just don't have what it takes to have it fixed..the thought of more surgery just isn't what I want. I do hope this works for you this time.

I have lots and lots of movies, I have been pigging out and I shouldn't be, as the last time I gained 20 pounds which is not good when you have a bad leg to be nursed back to health....Thenaks to you guys here at Mylot I am keeping my mind busy chatting with you all and I appreciate it.

I don't have a lot of time for discussions as I have a little one to tend to, so I didn't get to read all the responses and hope I'm not repeating anyone. I've had my share of surgeries and other reasons I've been restricted to rest. I can tell you that playing games on POGO have been my savior from going stir crazy! There are plenty of free games to play. Paying members can earn badges in the members only games, but you can get free trial for that. You should check it out if you haven't already.

Gabs I thought I had it beat the first time they operated on me, but I didn't work, I had an awful time as you may remember trying to keep my sanity, but this time isn't as bad, luckily I have you guys here at Mylot to keep me straight in the mind and giving me great ideas to pass some time, sorry I haven't been as active here as I used to be, and I apologize to my list of friends that haven't heard me much in there discussions, just trying different avenues in life to see where they take me, and somethimes they take me away from here. Thanks for the great support Gabs, appreciate it.

Sorry about your leg friend, but glad to hear from you, as I was looking at my friend list and missing you. I would read, crochet, eat myself into a stupor, do puzzles. I might do some creative writing, or research something. I would check into some exercises for things like my arms, or my other leg. I would snuggle with my honey. I would watch TV, videos, and listen to music. I would beg my friends to come see me. I would personal message all of my MyLot friends. Hope this entertains just a little. Maybe you need us all to send you joke books. Laughter is healing.

Oh dear this must be dreadful for you to have your leg operated on again. I bet it is boring but you had best listen and do what your doctor suggested for you to do so that your leg can heal properly. Well when I have been on bed rest I normally find a book to read or watch some dvd's or the television so pass the time. I understand exactly what you mean though it is difficult but you had best do it so that you will not go through this again. Good Luck!!

see if one of your family members can find you some kind of craft to do while sitting up in bed.. I do know keeping that leg up is hard on it's own but it sounds like you have to do it..
You need something that is going to keep your attention.
as a hint of what i did. I had my husband go to wal mart and get me some bead crafts. I had new christmas decorations, a few necklaces that some of my family loved..
if you have a table of some kind and you like it. maybe a model car..something you can get into after the internet and tv gets boring..
i hope it helps.. hope you get better real soon..

I have a stack of model cars in the basement that I have never completed and that has actually slipped my mind, thanks for reminding me of that, thats a project that was never finished that I could be working on, you guys are great at finding things to pass time, I am completely amazed, thanks so much.
This is a picture of one of my hand made models I had started 3 years ago but never finished, now would be the perfect time to get it done...

You know, I can remember times when all I hoped for was bedrest! LOL But I know how tiresome it can become.
Things that might help: Pamper yourself - Give yourself a manicure; treat yourself to a facial [if you don't have the products to do it, ask a make-up representative to come give you samples. Some will actually do it for you - Artistry Cosmetics, for example]; ask a friend or amily member to massage your feet or give you a pedicure.
- Do things for other people: write letters, send cards, make friendly phonecalls, do/learn needlework and make something for someone else.
- Have a slumber party! invite a couple of friends to sleep over and talk all night. They can make or bring goodies and entertain you while they wear you out! LOL
- Write letters to military personnel in Iraq and/or Afganistan. There are websites where you can send them messages.
- organize a project to do something charitable [food drive for local food pantry, care packages for service men and women overseas, whatever] You don't have to do more than organize it while you are laid up and line up people to do the actual running and doing.
-make menu plans for when you are back on your feet. Then you won't have to wonder "what to fix" on those days you are too busy to think.
- clean out drawers. Have a friend or familiy member set the drawers by your bed and one by one put them on the bed. You do the sorting and organizing, hopefully discarding, and they put the drawers back. You could even do kitchen drawers if they bring you a bucket of water and cloth to wipe the drawers out with.
- organize all those photographs that never got put into albums. Now's the time!
- Let the games begin! Invite a friend or two to come play a game with you - each day a different game and/or different friend.
Basically think of all the things you have told yourself you'd get around to when you had the time. And you'll find you don't have ENOUGH time to do them all.

Got another one! Go on myLots to discussions with no responses. Then go to the oldest ones and see how many you can respond to. This will make the person who started the discussion feel better. And you might find you have even more to share than you thought!

Have someone go get you a whole stack of books from the library, that should pass some time. And when you've got nothing better to do then sit on the computer, at least you're making money while stuck in bed. I wish you a speedy recovery, enjoy your rest.

I have tonnes of books, and read some everday usually cycling through my library daily so I don't get bored with the same book. The last time I was laid up, I made a killing in mylot, so maybe I can do that again, but I find lately it is hard to find posts to respond to, seems a lot have closed questions in them that really need no responses.

This is the ideal time for you to organize your life Take a note book and jot down your priorities in life and find out how far you have the means to meet them if not think out the various ways by which you can raise finance for your projects contact people who will help you or assist you in acheiving your goal and work out which one is the best and list them on priorities. learn a little about meditation and try to practice a little so that ven after you become normal you may feel like meditating.Call up friends whom you have not called for long time and jot down their welfare in the note book any other useful information you can have from them. Work out your financial commitments short term and long term and systematize them.Find out about cheapest holiday trips at home and abroad and the sesons when the prices are high and thiose when you get rebate ion every thing and plan your holidays in advance.

I try not to think about the things I need to do around here if possible as I am in the process of renovating our home and whenever I think about that I want to get up and start working on it again, I do constantly think about ways to try and earn a little extra money to help pay the bills.

well my suggestions wouldn't really help you because they are crafts. When i couldn't get around when i broke my ankle i did alot of cros stitch and latch hook, but since you are a man i don't think you would be into that too much. Try cross words, find a words or that sandoka game thingy, that may help pass the time. try finding a good book to read. Those are just a dew things that i would do. I hope you have a speedy recovery and get back on ur feet soon.

Can you have a t.v added to your room as this would be something different to do . Also you could have someone bring you in a few good books and some crosswords or puzzles to work on . Make sure you have a phone close by so you can at least have someone to talk to when you are totally bored lol .
What a bummer having to be on bedrest but hopefully the time will pass by quickly for you .
Best of luck !!

yeah i can understand your positon but there is little you can do now in this conditon .you have to accept the fact that you hvae to rest for the betterment of your health.i know it feels kinda boring to be in bed allt eh day but there is nothing else you cando for the moment.so i think you better follow the orders of the doctor and take some good rest.
