Sucking Lollipop in Public?

Will you try it, just like this child? - A carefree child sucking lollipop in public.

I was on the bus when a young man got up with a stick in his mouth. No, it wasn't a cigarette. It was a lollipop. Once seated, he start to eat lollipod the way little children do - suck it, pull it out, lick it, pop it back. He did it few times. I find it so amusing that he dared do such in public. I do suck lollipops, but only at home, when I am with the little ones. I find it interesting to behave like a kid once in a while. However, I do not have the guts to do it in public. What do you think? Are you able to able away your pride, ego or self, be oblivious to those around and suck a lollipop in public, just like a child? Do you think it is childish? Will you try it?

That guy rocks because he didn't care what others might think about him. He is enjoying what he is doing and that is what matters, no matter how most people would find it repulsive and gross. As an answer to your question, i wouldn't care, too. I'd eat the way I want to eat it and nobody's gonna tell me how.

I think that is the best part of the story...he is doing what he wants, regardless of how it looks to others. It isn't hurting anyone, nor is it vulgar or offensive. It is just him being him.

Tootsie Pop Lollipop - Mr. Owl from Tootsie pop Lollipop.
I agree totally. Why would you have an issue with eating a lollipop in public? Are you that concerned with how people will see you? Dude, grow-up! As long as you aren't being obnoxious in what you are doing, then do it! Besides, we are all still trying to answer that age old question: How many licks does it take to get to the center of a Tootsie pop?

LOL, whyaskq...your topic gave me a depiction of something more sinister in my bunny mind. For the young man eating a lollipop, that's his prerogative. I've seen a lot of people doing it. Maybe, they find it as a sort of passing their boredom. But no, I wouldn't dare go out in public and pop in a lollipop. I would rather chew on my carrot.

hehee.. i caught you. you do have devious thoughts, eh? Chew carrot in public? I will try to look out when I am on the streets. I suppose bunnies don't take buses.

You silly bighead, bunny also have a wicked mind. Better chew some carrot yourself. Good for the eyes. And I assure you, it won't make your head bigger. "grin"

Not silly, just innocent. I thought all bunnies are pure both in mind and heart. You are vegetarian, right? Oh, I know carrots are good for my eyes. In fact, I eat a lot, that's how the color of my face come about. I don't chew but swallow. Hope I will not deplete your supply :P

Oh I love lollipops and I would love to have the nerve to eat them in public. I think the guy was great to eat his lollipop regardless of what people thought. He could have been doing a lot worse than eating his lollipop. I buy bags of lollipops for my grandchildren and when they forget to take them home with them, I usually eat them myself. They tend to last much longer than sweets so they would be less fattening.

that guy is not ashame of what he is doing. he rocks! we can do all the things we want to do as long as it won't affect or harm other people. it is just right to do something you want and feel to do because it shows that you don't care about what other people might say. a sign of courageousness, i think.

uhm, i'm sorry but i don't see the point why you can't do it in public? is it such taboo to suck and lick a lolli out in public? coz i do it if i feel like having a lollipop.

He may have been trying to quit smoking. I used lollipops when I was trying to quit once. I never really "enjoyed" them in public though, except at my workplace at the time. It must have been quite the sight to see. I don't think I could do that on a public bus, maybe a park. I think the only time I can really let loose and act childlike is in a parklike setting...or like frolicing on the beach. I do think his behavior is a little odd and childish, but he wasn't harming anyone...so to each his own.

I love lollipops and yes I eat them in public just like a child. I never thought about it like that, or that they are just for kids. I take one from the bank each time I go and get my kids one too. My favorite are dum dums.

Lol, Whyaskq! Did he know you were watching ? Well, ofcourse he did!:-P I had almost forgotten what a lollipop looks like, but that was until I read your vivid description. No,I won't really do that in public ,but that is perhaps because I wouldn't want to anyway. However,if challenged I just might.Actually,I feel it brings out a deeper character of humans that being whether we mend our ways when in public (worrying that we might be judged wrongly) or we continue being ourselves irrespective of their presence. As for the question of respectability, that would depend on individual perception and in my case I am with you.

I would and do eat lollipops in public. I don't think it is childish to eat candy in public. Why should you limit yourself to what kinds of candy you eat in public. I'll even eat the ring pops in public :)

I don't think there's anything wrong with sucking lollipops. That's how you eat lollipops. It will be very unenjoyable with the lollipop in your mouth all the time; the buldge in your cheek gets uncomfortable after a while. If you think sucking lollipops is childish then you should think eating ice cream is childish because you are still licking the ice cream.

LOL...kudos to that guy. I sure don't have the 'guts' to suck my lolly in public. No matter what it is, Lollipop is a sweet candy and I do love it occasionally too. Maybe I should start sucking it in public.

My mom is the ONE person in our family who doenst like to draw attention to herself in public. Me, my sister, and my dad will openly make noise, be crazy and nutty and do it without caring that the public people know it too! We are nuts! So sure I am gonna suck a lolly in public. I probably have in the past. I am 27 and not ashamned to act like a kid sometimes :)) yeah!!!!!

Well, if he was just enjoying his lollipop as a candy, I don't see anything wrong. It takes a bit more courage once you get older... so it might be easier to do when you are in a group. Maybe you should have walked up to him, and shook his hand before asking for an autograph. :P

I think that he probably was enjoying that lollipop so much he didn't care what others think! I also find it interesting to watch people and see them revert back to childhood behaviors, such as when they are eating an ice cream or eating a lollipop. We usually do that, because it brings back childhood memories, we become relaxed and not really notice others so much. I do this myself! LOL

I love lollipops so I would suck on one in public if I wanted to..it wouldnt even occur to me that it's weird. I have seen a few men with them in public, but you don't see a lot of grown up men with lollipops..and most women if you see them with one are doing it to try to be sexy..licking it and sucking on it in a certain way to attract attention.. ya know what I mean lol I just eat em cuz I like em once in a while..though I did almost give this old guy a heart attack one day while I was licking on an Astropop in public while at work..I caught him watching me..it was pretty funny, especially since I didn't realize how it looked the way I was licking it until I saw his face LOL
