Limit on posting new discussions (AGAIN)

Yesterday i started a discussion about limiting how many discussion a member can start daily: http://www.mylot.com/w/discussions/937040.aspx It got some interesting and varied responses.. but what i want to make clear is: - I'm not saying that all people how post many discussions are spammers. - I have some friends who post many discussions daily and I love it and enjoy responding to them they are NOT spammers. - Spammers still get one or 2 responses so they get paid for their cheating, and ignoring them by the majority does not stop them. - Some post nonsense and others post what looks as good discussions but they can't possibly write them in 10 seconds or the speed they post in.. - It's hard to report this kind of spammers since you don't know where they copy and paste from, but obviously no one can think of and post a new discussion every 10 seconds.. - Setting a limit of 600 new discussion a month for members (average of 20 daily) or anything reasonable would not hurt good members, as those honest members posting more than 20 discussions daily are not doing it each and every day.. so a monthly limit may be a better idea. - i have no personal interest in this matter, just trying to see what other mylot members thinking about, maybe many people missed my point as they did not notice the kind of spam I'm talking about. I appreciate any further comments or thoughts either you responded my earlier discussion or not, thanks :)

I read on a thread somewhere, so not sure if it's correct, that you need at least ten responses to a discussion to start earning money from it. So a limit to discussions is going to be a good way of stopping those irritating little posts that clog up so much of mylot. The poster gets no credit if the response is low and the individuals that answer get perhaps $0.01 for their response! I don't post many discussions but I find it hard keeping up with the responses on the ones I have started as even old posts are still getting answers to them. I would love to know how people posting hundreds of disussions are able to keep track of them. Another good thing to come out of it could be the abuse on the rating system. If mylot clamps down a little on the silly postings, then the silly users may decide that it is not worth their time and effort, leaving mylot with only the serious people. Therefore not as much abuse to the system. Anything that has the potential to make mylot a better place has got to be good. I think that with all the changes in mylot recently it won't be long before mylot does something drastic like this (or something else). After all their hardwork I don't think they are going to want it ruined by misuse, as the reputation they are working so hard to build will be all for nothing! I hope my response doesn't offend anybody as it is purely a general observation, and different points of view is what makes mylot work.

Well, they just start discussions and never look back, they don't comment or answer to any question someone might post, and they don't give "best response' because it doesn't make "them" money. we don't want to offend anyone, people have the right to post many new discussions but within logical limits, I saw someone posting every 10 seconds again today and they are long text, must be copied from somewhere else, not enough time to even type it in such speed :(

There is no way that I could ever post a decent twenty discussion in a day never mind the six hundred that you are proposing for the month. There is a self limiting aspect of posting discussions here at mylot so there is no need to impose restrictions at the present time. Have a nice day from Deeeky.

Most members are like you and me, they would not even notice if there was a limit because they will never reach it. Sadly there are some who are exploiting the system and they may be hard to catch, that's why I suggest a limit.

I usally start my posts by something that is going on in my life or something that I find interesting. I respond to more disscussions then what I post.

Yes that's what most of the members do, we should respond more than we post.
