I'm Sick and I'm a Big Baby...

Ok along with all the other junk going on in my life yesterday I came down full fledged SICK. Which has brought up some questions what is the difference between a cold and the flue? I always thought a cold was stuffy head, sneezing, cough all that junk. Flu was vomitting, diarhea and that junk. I did brake down and go to the store yesterday in search of some help. I don't like taking medications but I feel horrible and have things to do. Now, I am coughing, stuffy, runny nose, sneezing, aches and pains, fever and chills - I thought this was just a cold. But, when reading the labels on the over the counter medication all the 'flu' meds were for these symptoms. Now I'm not only sick but confused too - I did get some medication which helps as long as I take it every 4 hours but am curled up in bed with my favorite blanket, remote control for the tv, and a role of toilet paper as while at the store I forgot tissues :( I didn't go to church this morning which makes me feel even worse but did listen on the radio (I am blessed that our first service is broadcast on the radio)... So, I've whinned, vented, moaned, and groaned - how about you. Are you a baby when your sick? Do you know the difference between a cold and the flu? Do you have favorite things to do when your sick (I have what the kids call 'Mom's sick blanket')? p.s. want to also thank everyone who responded to my discussion about my problems with myLot and the new ads - I have come up with a somewhat temporary fix, still not the same and slow but better than nothing, Crazy Browser - I can block the graphics but have to have it set to still see the ebay ads or I can't rate discussions...

((((((HUGS)))))) I hope you get better quick. Drink plenty of fluids to help loosen the gunk inside. Get lots of rest. Eat some Chicken Soup!! The flu you were thinking of sounds like the stomach flu. With the vomiting and diarrhea. The flu is like a cold with fever/chills and body aches. PS I use Angel soft, too! And get someone to get you some tissues with lotion in them. They are so gentle on the nose, it is worth the extra pennies!

Yep doing the liquids - diet pepsi, water, orange juice all three have bottles setting next to bed so I can trade off. Chicken soup - think I'm turning into a chicken, only have canned soup but adding extra chicken boulon to each cup. Sticking with my Angel Soft TP - am putting vicks vapor rub on my nose so that helps clear my sinus' plus protects my nose from getting sore, plus I love the smell I know that's crazy. Rest - that's about all I've done, sleep, sleep, and sleep some more, which it is about time for another nap.. I used to think toilet paper was toilet paper, did it's job then flush it down the toilet but my daughter got me on Angel Soft a couple years ago and I refuse to use anything else now. I've almost gone through a whole roll in 2 days just on my nose :(

Very often people say they have the flu, when they really have a virus. The flu is usually much worse than a virus. The flu can kill people. Most flu's originate in China. Every year Australia designs a new flu vacine from the latest strain of flu. I am not exactly sure of the differences between the ful & a virus. Viruses can vary with their symptons, but often is a cough, runny nose, etc. But some people do get gastro, aches & pains, etc. Mostly viruses can not be treated. You just have to let them run their course, & drink plenty of fluids, rest & healthy food being the only cure. Flu, on the other hand, often requires antibiotics, as secondary infection develops. I remember when my daughter had the Sydney flu (off shoot of the Hong Kong flu) when she was four years,. She was very sick & vomiting up phlegm.

So sorry that you are sick. When it rains it pours as my mom used to say. When I have a cold I still go to work. If I can't go to work then it is the flu. I used to think like you that the flu was vomiting and that kind of stuff but now it seems that a flu is a bad cold. I hope you feel better. I guess it is good that I had a flu shot. I try not to be a whiner when I am sick. Take care and get better!

I'm best just closing myself up in my bedroom and whinning to all of myLot :) I did get the flu shot this year - and this is the 3rd time I've been sick this year :( However I guess I should count my blessings. My mom is a registered nurse with a masters degree in infection control and my step-father is a retired doctor (he still works volunteering at local free clinics and such) - they both insisted the flu was going to be worse this year than ever before and even if you do get sick getting this new strain of flu could be fatal. LOL 51 years old and when Mom says "get the shot" I get the shot... Too funny though the minute I read your post "when it rains it pours" it started raining here :)

I am a big baby when I am sick, if no one is home. They have no mercy when they get home. They expect everything to be the same. Usually, I fix a real easy supper for them, usually coney dogs or something. But I still have to get my son his bath for school the next day and make sure laundry is done up and dishes done or it doesn't get done.

Sorry you are feeling so crummy! I think I had the flu one time and I thought I was dying. Colds are the stuffy nose and coughing and sneezing etc. that everyone gets and passes around...you know it will go away sooner or later and you put up with the aggravation. The flu is more intense, and the chills are a very big part of it. Your whole body feels bad too...achy and you feel so tired or ill you have to lie down. I don't really remember the cold symptoms with the flu...thank goodness it was a really long time ago. I think it only lasted a day.

Hello again :) I'm sorry to find you ill, I hope you will get better soon, it sounds like a flue, when you have it once you will know what it is, colds are mild for me and I can continue my daily routine and do the same things more or less, but with flue, it's fever and "broken bones" felling dizzy and sleepy all of the time.. no one likes to by ill, it's a rough time for anyone, you just have some rest, drink a lot of fluids (especially lemonade) and you will get better soon :)

Hi I am very sorry to hear that you are not well at all, now the difference between a cold and the flu. Well a cold is having a lower or lower than usual temperature where the flu is a lot worse and can develop into influenza. So I hope that this has helped you understand the difference between the two of these illnesses. Yes I can be a real baby when I am sick but it all depends on how sick really I am at the time.

Faith, I'm sorry to hear your sick. the difference between a cold and a flu. With a flu you feel achey all over and you have a fever. Most of the time. You can also have cold symptoms. I used to believe the same as you. about the difference but I went on line and found out. So many times when i thought i had a cold , (a really bad cold) I really had the flu. Sounds to me like you have the flu. Please take care of yourself. Rest and drink lots of fluids and eat some soup. Feel better soon.

I very very seldom get sick of influenza or flu, but oftentimes have colds. Colds for me is when I have stuffy nose/ running nose and it is sometimes associated with slight fever but not always. I take mostly neozep tablet (chlorphenamine maleate) when I have colds. I think colds and flu are cause by viruses. When having flu, aside from running nose, cough and colds, and fever, I also feel dizzy, feels muscle and body aches, sometimes vomit and I dont have appetite to eat. If I can handle it, I just take bio-flu medicine tablet. If after severals days and I still dont feel well, I ask my family to accompany to the hospital for confinement and have some proper medical attention and rest. I guess, its better you consult a doctor if your situation worsens. Its better you take rest. Take care of yourself... Hope that you'll get well soon.

I always thought a cold was sneezing and coughing and runny nose sometimes with a fever, and the flu on the other hand has always been puking and high fever to me along with diarhea. I hope you feel better soon and can beat this bug.

I see this was posted 5 days ago. I hope you are feeling better now. I have no idea what the difference is between a cold and flu. Maybe the aches and pains. When I am sick I just want peace and quiet, Oh, and someone to cook for me. haha!
