Mylot Questions-Answer Honestly Please!

*Do you, as users, still respond to a thread even if the best response has been given out? *Do you respond to a thread where the writer never leaves a comment back? (I HATE when they don't say anything back!) *Do you respond to a thread that isn't written well? For instance, bad grammar, full of typos, broken English, or too many abbreviations? *How many times (average) have you negatively rated someone? What were the reasons? I have always wondered what others think...these questions are on my mind often whil I participate here on Mylot. Honesty is much appreciated!

Oh sure, I will definitely respond to a thread, even if a "best response" has already been selected. Most times, I don't even notice if there is already a best response. If it's an appealing topic or if I can contribute anything that is different to what has already been posted, I am happy to jump in. It's sure nice to be selected as a "best response" but we also wouldn't want to see that become the "only response" or even the defining response, I don't believe ... lots of viewpoints are interesting and they can come along at any time -- even months later! I always post back within discussions that I start and I try to always check back into discussions where I've responded. I like to see "give and take" and not just one off replies. A series of disjointed replies are less interesting to me than a series of small "conversations". I do enjoy it when the original poster takes the time to post comments here and there in their discussions because it often elaborates their feelings on the topic. My only "criteria", if you want to call it that, for responding to a discussion is that the topic is of interest to me and I feel that I have something I can share. I don't judge a person's grammar or writing abilities and certainly don't judge how well someone writes / types in English. "Net speak" or acronyms / abbreviations do tend to bother me some but they wouldn't preclude me from participating in someone's discussion. I don't often give negative ratings ... only when one of myLot's guidelines is clearly broken or when someone posts just nonsense (meaning a nonsensical reply that doesn't contain actual words - just jumbled characters). If a person is disruptive, it's not pleasant for others who wish to participate. 'bout as honest a reply as I've got for you, princess LOL :)

- If it's something interesting then yes. - Yes, in the hopes that they will start to. It's frustrating when people aren't interested in the responses! - Yes, in the hopes that they will learn by example. People who are just lazy annoy me though! - Several times, but only when they're spammers or abusive, rude or bigoted.

I respond too, to the the ones who have all ready given out a best reponse. I am not aiming to gain only best responses, I am also interested in having a conversation with someone! (Or multiple people.) I have only negative rated a few poeple, mainly because they were sexually harrassing me or others on my thread. I also have negatively rated for those who are bigoted too.

Yes I do respond to threads reagardless of the fact --they have given the best response or not, --they don't leave behind comments (though I'd appreciate if they'd wrote atleast a 'thank you', which I always do in my posts), --their english is bad, if am able to understand whats in the post and it interests me, I respond. I rarely put a negative of anybody, in fact anybody who responds to my discussions will surely get a +, I make sure of that. The last time I put negative on anybody because they didn't read the entire post and answered. Have a nice day!

\As I understand length and content are what we are judged upon when gaining our earnings. So a simple "thank you" or any other very simply stated reply would be considered a low response.
• United States
2 Apr 07
Well, the thing is: Mylot doesn't award earnings for a simple "thank you" as it is considered a short, low quality response. It makes sense, people can't just earn money for appreciation! They are looking for dynamic conversations and length of conversation. I, too, get angry when people don't read the whole post and ultimately do not follow the rules of the thread. If I am not interested in reading the whole thing, I just skip as to not waste my time or anyone else's.

oh I meant, "Thanks for the response!" or something like that to thank people for responding regardless if they have agreed or not to what they say on the COMMENT (not response), does that count as a low quality comment or something?

1. Yes, I will respond even if BR has been given out. I usually don't even think to check if is has or not most of the time anyway. 2. I will respond if the writer doesn't comment, I like it better if they do, but I can understand that not every reply can be commented on, there just isn't time. 3. I don't mind if a disussion is broken english, since I know many members are not native english speakers. Of course, it has to be clear enough that I am able to understand what they are asking in order to answer. 4. I have probably given out 4 or 5 - ratings, but only for those that have posted responses that have nothing to do with the discussions (ie. you ask a dog question and they post a "join my HYIP" link). I will usually also check their past responses to other discussions to see if they do that regularly, and report them if they do.

Right, I completely agree that there is not enough time for every response to get noticed. I should have worded that more clearly...I get angry when the writer does not add a comment to anyone's responses on the whole page. Why do they even bother writing the forum? It makes me think they don't even go back to look at what people have to say in regards to their topic. I guess I should have worded that differently too-about the broken English-I have come across a few threads that are so poorly written I can't even make out what the idea is. Link posting is greatly annoying too!

Ah, well if the discussion has been open for several days and the OP never commented, I suppose I would be a little annoyed, but it wouldn't keep me from posting if I like the discussion. Even if the OP doesn't comment, usually another poster will if it is a good topic.

I usually don't care if a "best response" was given or not if i have something to say in the discussion, but I must say that sometimes it disappoints me if I think that i have an exceptionally good response and had a good chance to score a "best". As for comments, I prefer when people write back but I would not move on because they don't. Bad English; I'm not a native English speaker myself although my English is OK but I sympathize with other "foreign" members and like to respond to their discussions despite their broken English, as long as i can understand what they mean; and that they are trying to say something interesting i will respond. I didn't use the negative sign much, just for shameless spam like two words or a "fit all response" like "I agree, you have good point here" or something like this.

Well said in every aspect-and by the way , your English is superb! I too find it disheartening when I give it my shot, yet still don't recieve a best repsonse. But I can't complain really, as I have been given the best response on many occasions, some where I didn't even try!

Thanks :) and yes, sometimes there's only one or two responses and they are very short that anything you will write will qualify as "best" :)) I feel that some of my "bests" are not deserved while the ones i thought was a "sure thing" was never awarded, sometimes just because some members don't give best responses at all or just give them to their friends only :(

If the thread is interesting I will respond, I am not necessarily looking for the best response, just a chance to chat and air my thoughts on the given subject. I don't like being ignored in a discussion at all, especially when they answer everyone else but you, I could understand no response if I had been rude or something, but I don't answer that way. Apparently with some people you have to be on their friends list to merit acknowledgement. I will respond to a badly written thread if it interests me and I can understand what is being asked. Some are so bad I can't figure out the question even. I know there are a lot of people to whom English is a second language and I make allowances for that since English is one of the hardest languages to learn. I have only negatively rated one person for creating a poor discussion and labeled it for certain people only, and she thought it was funny the way people took offense.

I get so angry when mine is the oly one skipped to! I always make an attempt to be very critical with my thinking, and do my best to give a well rounded response. I hate getting ignored! And yes, you are not the first person to say that those who are not on one's friends' list do not often get the rcognition that the friends do...that is kind of a bummer huh?

Best response or not i tend to give a reply if i'm able. I will stop responding to writers who don't give comments. If i am able to understand i will respond. I have rated - for verbal abuse and hatred. What do you think of friends who don't respond to your discussions??? Take care Princess07031980.

I don't mind so much if they don't answer back to me-although I like it if a conversation can continue! What I hate is when someone starts a thread and replies to no one! I mean we as users take the time to read them and come up with something to write, the least thing they could do is acknowledge it!

Ya for start I do respond to the discussion even if it has selected a best response or is incorrect in grammer, or other mistakes or the user doesn't give back replys or anything else as long as the topic and the matter is interesting enough. and for as far as it goes for negative repping or rating I have never done so. Either it might be I never got so offended or something like that. But ya I always try to +ve rate everybody whose discussions or responses I read. I swear that was honest enough.!! Take Care May GOD Bless YOU

I dont usually negatiely rate anyone, I dont see the need, I either rate positively or dont at all. I do answer sometimes if there is already a best response, as I like to answer ones I find interesting...However, I really like the ones with no responses, because those usually I hear back from the one who responded. I too do not like when someone doesnt respond back, unless there is no response needed. I try to ignore the typos and grammar, as some people type fast, or have a different first language.

I definitely try to rate positive as well, and for the most it is well deserved. However, I have needed to negativel rate some for their lack of reading my post, or for harassment to me or others who are responding. I am guilty of typing fast, and rarely check my work, so I am guilty of having typos quite often.

Well thank you very much. But do not feel bad if you must negatively rate someone. Sometimes it is necessary-especially when ones are spamming or harrassing others. It doesn't happen too often, but it does happen. Please rate those people accordingly, to help keep the Mylot community clean!

I try to respond to my friend's discussions, if I am qualified or interested in the subject. Best responses are nice, but I have found discussion topics that are quite old and have already given out the best response that interest me, so I respond. If I truly cannot understand what the poster of a discussion is saying, I won't respond. Not all my comments have a reply from the poster of the discussion, no biggie. I don't comment on some replies to mine, because they sometimes are one liners or really don't deserve my feedback. I have only rated one discussion started by someone as negative, because it was vulgar and really had no business being started. I almost reported this poster to myLot. I checked his other discussions and they were all about s*x subjects. God Bless

I too reply to older conversations too. I think that digging up the old ones will help get them re-recognized and are much appreciated by the originated. I know I do! I too look through my friends topics for things to do when times are slow. I don't really reply to one-liners either. I don't see the point if the original response wasn't given much to be posted in the first place.

yes i do respond to a thread even if the best answer is selected provided that the discussion is relevent to my interest and is simply irresistable. I too don't like to post my comment on a thread where the initiator never leave a comment. i mean this is against the spirit of discussion, if the nitiator himself/herself is not interested in reply back than why creat a thread in first place. this is against the spirit of dicussion, but still above rule applies for me here too. if it's irresistable i would go for the answer. i have no problem responding to a thread with errors of language as my own english is not good, and i think there are great many people who's first language is not english, so it's possible to have a great idea even if linguistically it's not better spelled.

I think that is the most common reason people negatively rate: for spammers. It clearly breaks the rules, and hopefully the reporting helps in clearing them out so the ones that are left are real people looking for real discussions. I just find it irritating when people don't take the time to say anything at all to anyone. Makes me feel like I wasted my time even responding to them in the first place.

Yes I respond if has already been given best response. I even respond when they never comment back. If the subject interests me I will respond. If it doesn't I won't. Not everyone is perfect in Grammar and spelling and puncutation, so that isn't even important to me. I think if it interests you , you respond, if it doesn't, don't! Shouldn't matter the spelling, grammar or punctuation!

I respond to discussions that I know I can reply too with a pretty good answer, it's not always possble, but we can but try. It doesn't matter to me whether the person who started the discussion has selected a best response. Some discussions I just have nothing to say or add, so I pick discussions on whether or not I can respond to that discussion. I don't generally rate anyone negative, however I have done once to a discussion. I repond to discussions no matter what the grammer, typo's broken english, so long as I have something to say in a response.

I too do not care if the best reponse ha s been given out. My thing is like you, if I can add a good piece of work to the discussion, I will, regardless. But at the same time, I do get angry if the write doesn't acknowledge me or anyone else on the page. I believe negatively rating someone can be a necessary duty, especially to report abuse or spam.

I will respond even if best response is given. If a discussion interests me it doesn't matter if they have already chosen their best answer. I don't write to get the best response-- I write to write. If ther person doesn't respond to others responses- I don't pay much attention to this. I always go back and check to see if the person responded to me. If I can't understand what a person is asking I won't respond- but if they try to do a good job and I can understand and it interests me- I respond. I think I have rated negative once ever. The person was very rude to me personally--

on your first question - i still do, if i find the topic very interesting; question number two - nope, not anymore even if the one posting a topic is included in my friends list, i find it frustrating if they never leave a comment; question number three - not anymore as i go along here in mylot; question number four - i have never given negative ratings to someone posting comments on my topics. thanks for the very interesting questions of yours...

I agree it is very frustrating! I think that is because I actually go back ans see what they thought of my opinion or my statement. I get discouraged when they never return the favor. And you are very welcome! Thank you for taking the time to answer them...I think we are learning a lot about our peers!

You know, I do not hate when I do not get a reply back, it is not always possible to reply to every response. Especially on slow dial-up. If the originator does not respond to anyone's comments then I would think it a bit off...but even then I do not know if they are ill or what. Sometimes, what you would reply to the person has already been stated before and it seems redundant. I would think if I just repeated myself over and over people would feel more snubbed than if I did not reply at all.... it is against mylot guidelines to write "thank you for your reply" after each reply, and it will get deleted anyway. I don't know how many negatives I have given, but I do not give them solely for disagreement, but a really snarky attitude may warrant one. I have on occasion responded to poorly written posts, if I can make out what they are asking or stating. I can not fault anyone for not being fluent in English when it is not their first language. I usually avoid the excessivly abbreviated posts and words made with a lot of Z's and X's - if the writer did not care enough about their discussion to take the time and write it out, it probably is of little interest to me too. how about you?

I agree with you, I should have worded the first question a little differently-what I meant was those who do not respond to any of the responses regarding a certain topic. I think that is rude-people take the time to read what you have written and even moreso write back a reply. Acknowledgment is necessary for at least some of the responses! True, I never thought of dial-up being a reason some people are overlooked. LOL I remember those slow internet days!

Now thats the woman's perspective that u have..wonder what others think. just kidding... Anyway I respond to discussions even if the best response has already been marked... I really dont care for to get the best response for myself. And typos, I used to generate lots of typos myself earlier.. so i sympathise with the guys rather than turn them off. Its easy to learn english from childhood, its far more difficult to learn it as your second or third language and still be perfect in it...considering that it is rarely used by most people outside US and parts of europe..i am from india.. so even grammar is no great a turn off for me... If the guy has made his point clear.. its good enough for me.

I am guilty too of having typos in my work. Sometimes I am just ready to move on and don't want to take the time to correct myself! LOL. It is good to see that people are very open to others grammatics and such on Mysapce. I wasn't necessarily referring to others that don't speak English as a native-there are some here in the States that have known the language their whole life and still speak it poorly!

*Yes I respond to discussion even if the user had already marked the best response for that discussion. *I respond to users who do not give back comments too cos I cannot expect everyone to give some feedback.hence i do that. *bad grammar typos..I try not to differentiate. But i generally dont feel like responding to such discussion may be its bad. But am honest in telling you the real fact htat i am doing everyday. *I have not negatively rated anyone till date cos its only a few days since i joined mylots. But if the post is really bad and is not at all pertinent to whats discussed theres nothing wrong in rating it negatively.

I do too, overlook a certain comment too, just because it is very hard to keep up with everyone, and sometimes it is just too time consuming to hit everyone up. I meant that those who never reply to any of their peers comments...
