I set goals on a monthly basis but review them daily. What I do first is ask myself (1) What individual roles do I play in life? (2) What do I want to accomplish in these roles for the next month? (3) What action tasks will I take to achieve this?
A few roles that I play in life include ... nurse educator and health and fitness writer. I enjoy learning about what's happening in community health, home care, nursing and education, so I centre my goals around learning more about it. For example as a nurse educator I am required to provide monthly sessions to community health clinicians. So my ongoing goal is to always stay updated in this field. Last month, my goal was to research for sites and associations that provide resources and information to this group of clinicians. Each day I would find a magazine publication or a website and read up on what services and information they offer and determine if they would be useful to my group.
This month my goal is to go to my local library and find out how I can obtain the table of contents for each magazine that I found useful. My hope is to receive regular updates on magazines and what their magazines are publishing for each publication.
Next month I hope to contact the associations which might be beneficial in offering my group an 'information session'. That way, the group I teach can determine for themselves if the association would be useful to them.
I am a visual person, so I write down my monthly goals, post it up whereever I can see them (organizer, computer, inside my purse) and then at the end of the month, I "tick" which ones have been accomplished. I then evaluate to see if I put too much on my plate or if I put too little and adjust my goals when I write it for the next month....
I do not have a 10 goal list of things that I want to accomplish before I die. I don't believe in it. I think that we only have control over today and that if I maintain goals that are for "the now", I don't feel as frustrated/discouraged if I haven't accomplished them in the next month.

I do write a list every morning to help keep me on track and get everything done over the course of the day, and I also have long term goals like paying off the mortgage and working for myself. Apart from that I find life abit too unpredictable to make too many plans, something always comes along and gets in the way otherwise.

We have always had goals in our relationship cher. I think having goals are important. It gives you something to strive forward to.
Our latest one is to have our lives in order enough to be able to travel when my husband retires. We're working on it now. Our home is paid for. Our vehicles are paid for. We own everything we have and are looking for an RV to get it paid for before he retires.
My last goal was to write and publish a book. I've done that. Two in fact and working on the third. Goals are a good thing.

For my personal life, I set yearly goals and sometimes monthly, but that's it.
For my business, I set 5-year, 1-year, quarterly, monthly, and weekly/daily goals. It's the only way to make sure I keep the business moving in the right direction all the time.
