splitting household expenses

if both husband and wife wrks, how do you split the household expenses ? Do you split everything in middle? in my case my earning is not stable but when it comes , it pays off everything well. So i shoulder the big expenses like education, trips etc, How dose it work in your family

In my family there is no "that moneys mine and thats yours" It all just goes into one account and bills get paid from that account and they use it for fun money as well. Its just family money and my mom and dad dont consider it belonging to one or the other. With me and my fiance, I work part time and use what I earn to pay my bills but he helps me and gives me fun money as well. Once we are married we will do what my parents do. Just each deposit our checks in our joint account and then use that money together to pay bills and go out to dinner or go shopping or go on vacation ,ect.
