Pet Power or ??

Round goldfish bowls are now banned in Rome after animal rights activists claimed they are cruel and may cause fish to go blind. I think going blind is something that can happen to any animal not to mention a human being.
In addition, to the fish-bowl by-law, the Italian capital’s lawmakers have stopped fairgrounds from giving away fish and other animals as prizes, and made regular dog-walking mandatory for all dog owners.
Is this pet power or bureaucracy gone mad?

Boy, fish going blind in a round fish bowl. What is the world coming to. Probably is a good idea to abolish the fish being given away at fairs though. Maybe the dog-walking mandatory would be a good idea here. The exercise might cut down on the obesity.

I agree with the dog walking but not sure how it can be enforced of course, unless people have to pass a certain point and register there. LOL
However I am not too sure about fish going blind in a round fish bowl, but it is funny all the same. :)

I read this and thought, "You've got to be kidding!" It is one of those things that you realize someone, somewhere, has spent a lot of money on a crazy research to come up with this idea. Sounds nuts! Who would have even thought to investigate round goldfish bowls?

Actually I thought the same as you did when I read this one. I would think that any sensible Government would have more pressing needs for their money that to spend it on investigating round goldfish bowls. Of course, they could have just taken the word of someone but how on earth did they come to the conclusion that it was the round bowls causing the goldfish to go blind?

The government doesn't have enough to do? It is getting involved with goldfish blindness? What about causes of human blindness if they want to put their time and money to better use? I also don't understand how they plan to enforce mandatory dog walking. It sounds like someone needs to channel these lawmakers lack of anything to do into something more worthwhile.

Its madnessssssssss. Gold fish r very beautiful and no one should bann them anywhere. Its really stupidiity and nothing else and nothing more. Cruelness should n't b matter among animals as if they'll n't b crueled then who will be they called animals. There r plenty of animals cruel in this world. Should we bann to all??????? N't at all. Gold Fish r beautiful creature of God and its really a siilly step by Rome that they banned gold fish.

Ive kept fish for many years, but never liked the round bowl for keeping them in! Yes I do have a large round bowl! But that is only used to put the 3 fish in when cleaning out thies 4 foot tank they live in! So they only go into the bowl once every so often for the day! So not in there that long really!

I admit to being a little confused as to how a round goldfish bowl can cause a goldfish to go blind. However, if there is proven scientific fact that this is the case, then perhaps such bowls should be banned. There is no need to cause harm to helpless animals who have no control over what kind of an environment you give them to live in. It sounds like a good idea to me to make certain that dog owners take some responsibility and walk their dogs! *laugh*

Yes it is a good idea to make dog owners take some responsibility, but how do you think they are going to enforce this law? As for the goldfish, I am wondering how they came to this conclusion. Just how much money was spent on investigating this "problem".
Thanks for reading and responding. :)
