I'm asthmatic and currently got a chest infection. I am okay with that but find it hard to catch my breath at times and then get panicky because it's frightening. Does anyone have any tips on coping when it's hard to catch your breath. I have to take my inhaler but it does'nt always work straight away. Any tips?

I too am an asthmatic. I use the old paper bag trick to help sometimes, it doesnt always work either...I also sometimes hold my breath for a count of 15 and then release, sometimes that works. Good luck......

My asthma used to be pretty severe until I gave away my animals. I don't know if you have animals, but not having them have really helped me.
As for dealing with an attack, try doing a meditation trick. Pay attention to your breathing and see if you can calm it down and breathe deeper. Close your eyes if you have to. I've found that keeping myself calm during an attack can do wonders and may even stop it.

We do have a budgie, but normaly it doesn't effect me. I only really get whizzy or badly asmathic when I have a infection. I will try out your theory. Thanks so much.
