would you have a cleaning lady if it wasn't expensive and within your budget?

The reason I ask this is last summer when i had house guest I hired a cleaning lady she was a very nice person who came every two weeks. I paid her 40 dollars for a regular cleaning week and varied prices if there was more to do. I did all my own laundry and garbage and stuff was my husband's job. So she dusted, vacuumed, swept, mopped, did any dishes and the washroom. on certain weeks she would clean the fridge and stove and was paid extra. Others more for the oven or if she did the sheets extra..she was happy with the arrangement and so was John and I no longer argued on the weekend over housework the place stayed tidy..our our house guest left things went back to normal. but I'm thinking since the anuerism i had in Jan and mving into the new home I may call her back does it seem like a waste of money?? or does it just make good sense?? let me know what you think?

If it wasn't expensive and within my budget I would always hire a cleaning lady. Cleaning a big house especially when you have kids is a hassle. I try to keep the place tidy but sometimes I am overwhelmed.
I think if you can afford a cleaning lady then it's worth it. Cleaning is hard work and it's worth the money.

Yes, I plan to get a maid service once things are less hectic here. I think its about $200 for service once a month, expensive I know, but I am going to look at craigslist for maybe a student wanting to do it. It's totally worth it to me! We keep a pretty clean house but it would be nice to have someone do the finishing touches on the house where I just don't have time to do it. I don't think it's a waste at all!

I can understand you point of view and had the same feelings myself for many years.I was a crazy clean person. I felt no one could clean it like me..then i got sick i had no choice mom tidied it and i wasn't happy but knew better and kept quiet. but now when you pay someone if something is not to your liking you can explain it. my health issues may give me the guilt free feeling but after reading about the people and the other reasons they might like to have a housekeeper there are some great ones..but it come down to personal choice and yours is a great one too thanks so much for taking the time to respond and since yours if the first one pro do it your self lol I applaud you lol..you know I'm teasing

I don't think it's a waste at all. I know we could use a hand around here with the cleaning. Not that we're super messy, just there are six of us, with number seven on the way and we seem to run out of time to do everything. I think laundry is the thing we could use the most help with, the pile never seems to go down no matter how much we do, heh.

For me if you can afford it why not.. and if you really need it and it can make your life more easy and your house more relaxing. For me personally, I don't think that I need a house cleaner since we don't have a big house. I can do cleaning the whole house maybe in one whole day. Plus I can get an exercise while doing it which I really needed.

aww yes there is that exercise benefit and your right see i have a replacement in mind i love photography so i figure we bought the house on the harbor front so i will grab my camera and WALK (exercise right lol) and get soem great shot and upload them make some money to pay for the cleaning lady lol all kidding aside..if i could physically do the cleaning i would but i think it is safer and within our budget to do it this way. but i do commend you attitude about cleaning you have such a positive view of it i bet it doesn't take you long at all
thanks for responding hon

Hi, unless I moved into a large house then it's not really worth it as I only have a two bedroomed apartment and there is only myself and my 17 year old daughter who lives there so it's pretty easy for us to keep clean even though I work full time. My friend has a cleaner because he works full time and his wife is ill, although they do have a four bedroomed house and a dog the sheds his fur like there's no tomorrow! If you can afford it, then why not if it's not something you can do yourself! I've always thought life's too short for housework lol!

I like the idea of a cleaning lady, but with me being home all day it really isn't justifiable to spend that money to pay someone to do the jobs I do myself.
Once I start looking at working though then it might be an idea to think about. My partner doesn't really do much to help out unless I specifically ask him to and so, it bugs me a little that I don't always get the help I'd like.
If I was recovering from a long term illness or I had surgery or something then I think I would look into it too. Obviously if you can't do certain things, then it makes sense.

well thank you and your right if i was home all day not working and physically well enough to do it ..i should do it unless we had lots of money and a budget isn't necessary then well do whatever floats your boat..but after the aneurysm in January my health is not where it should be I tire very easily and get migraines at least 3-4 a week..so i do think our budget maybe able to squeeze out the 40 dollars every 2 weeks for my peace of mind..thanks so much for responding i think you brought up a very valid point

I do not like to have a live in maid, as it do not have to have a stranger in the house all day. I hired a housekeeper that come to my house on a weekly basis to help to with major cleaning like moping the floor, washing the toilet and ironing.
She stays in my neighborhood and know her for a long time and she come in when we are at work. We kind of build the trust that she come in when we are out at work so that we are not around to obstruct her cleaning.

If you need the help, then you really should consider it. Talk it over with your husband, see if you can't rebudget to fit it in.
My husband has mentioned getting a cleaning lady, but I just don't feel comfortable having a stranger in my home. But that's just me.

i can understand that completely because i felt that way too..The owner of the restaurant John is the manager and head chef at recommend this lady to us which was nice..they have a million dollar home and our little apartment doesn't hold many treasures lol. but that wasn't my concern actually theft i mean it was the idea of my personal things being sorted through ..so i met with the lady and she said Cheryl you more than welcome to stay while i clean i said are you sure? she said it does not affect me at all..you can stay in the den till I'm ready to clean there..so that's what i did and i felt much more at ease..so hubby and i have sit down this morning crunched some numbers with the renovations and all and its doable and i called her back and she will return in our new place July 1st so I'm glad..thanks for bringing up two great points..your response really added something new

Oh I would totally hire a cleaning lady if I could afford one! I would have them do my windows, dust, mop, stuff like that. All the stuff I hate to do. But I too would still do my own laundry and little things like that. Windows are really what gets neglected in my home. :-(

My sister sent this to me. Her grandmother was saying "I don't do dishes, and I don't do windows" My sister asked why don't you do dishes, the answer I have a dishwasher. Well why don't you do windows. answer "they won't fit in the dishwasher'.

If I could get a cleaning lady for 20 dollars a month or less, I might. I can't handle all of the housework because of the time it takes to clean this place. I rent a small two-bedroom apartment but it gets dirty fast! People leave things out of their proper places. I'm guilty too - definitely more than one other person in this household.
A cleaning lady would be great if I could get one for a dollar a day.

hmmm now that might be a tough call lol mine is 80 a month and i think that's a steal..I know you can get students but I'm not real sure of the work ethic or if there bonded ..i might have concerns there..maybe later as things improve you will be able to afford someone..its a great thing to have a clean organized house and trust me it helps you keep it tidy once she has been there..
thanks so much for responding

Around here, a cleaning lady is $40 per visit, so I think you're getting a good price.
I don't see how help cleaning your house could be a waste of money. If you're not feeling well, or very busy, then you might as well use this service to make things easier for you - after all, isn't that what money is for?

If i had the budget certainly I would like sometone to help me out with the kitchen and bathroom. Those are the two spots in my house that need cleaning forever and I don't always have time for scrubbing on a regular basis. Once every four to six weeks yes I would love that.

we have a cleaning lady that comes once a month. My mom pays for her since she is so reasonable. She can get our 6 bedroom home done in two hours! WOW! With three kids I don't have time to clean the house and put things away. More often than not the house is picked up just not clean. I broke down and cleaned the toilets and bathtubs this week though. It's relieves some stress having her come and i'm more realxed.

Cleaning lady? ceratinly not...i mean who trusts them, the moment you turn ur back they just pick ur stuff and the worst thing is u cant even blame them if u have'nt seen them doing so coz they'll never admit it...but one acan certainly go for a servant from a reputed firm...

i can clearly see your point and it was a huge concern of mine so much in fact i stayed with mine for months and she didn't care one bit we would often have a coffee when she was done..i did use a service while Linda\s mom had passed away and there employees are bonded and insured so you are at no risk but you do pay a bit more but are protected..i do think you bring up a legitimate concern though thank you
