I feel so tired, but I can't sleep

With all the stresses and strains of day to day living lately I have felt more and more tired, yet I can't get a decent night's sleep. I know I am worrying about things, money and the lack of a job, but now it is reaching a stage where I just can't settle down for a good night's sleep.
I have tried the usual remedies, but nothing seems to work. I know that my general health is suffering now, I feel tired and listless, I have aches and pains in my joints and I feel knackered all the time.
If I were a horse I think I would have been put down by now, but I suspect this is more due to the time of year.
Do others get to feeling like this as we leave the winter behind and look forward to spring and the better weather.

Every one does gets across such a time atleast once in a life time.
Its all our internal worries..
Just try taking some mental rest
Think about something positive about your life and the most imp thing Try keeping your mind and yourself engaged in some activity......
It will definately help:-)

Hello friend! You know? I suggest you should count imaginary sheeps in your mind until you get sleep. Or you could close your eyes while lying on your bed and think of something that you want to have a dream of. That's what I'm doing whenever I can't make myself sleep. ^^

Hello friend, I know this is an old posting of yours but it comes around to the top for my attention. Years ago, actually 10 years ago I left a stressful job. I took steps to change my life, even though I had no idea how I would do that, had nothing real in front of me, ie no career or ideas of what to do next. I did though start to learn how to unstress my body, learned to relax properly (even though I sometimes wonder if there is the perfect way to do so).
On the surface there is the easy way to relax and unwind - like put your feet up, have a nice drink, put a video on, no noise, no phones etc, etc.
I found stress was layered in my body, and so to keep untwisting and unstressing these layers I found I had to put effort into it. Such a paradox that statement. Relaxation is work!!
Dis-eases like Chronic fatigue (physical symptoms), Restless Legs Syndrome and now the new beaut Fibro Mialgia is the direct result of too much tension and peoples inability to relax properly.
And one problem to overcome is that once you start to relax pain comes up which triggers more tension, unless you learn to let the tension go. Doesn't mean you have to be put down like a knackered equine creature. Means you have to work at relaxing.
Start now cause the older you get the harder it is to let go, seriously!

I HATE insomnia. I have guests this weekend, so no chance of grabbing any short naps until Sunday at least. I reckon by then I will be so knackered I will just crash out for a few hours. Have a good weekend hun

I know that feeling so well sweety - and the only thing that helps me is to take sleeping tablets when it gets really bad! My doctor knows I hate to take medication that could be addictive so I only take them every 3-4 nights so that I don't get used to them but still get the benefit of at least one half decent sleep! Hope things improve for you sweets!xxx

Hi my friend! I do know that chocolates has a higher content for caffeine or something like that. My pharmacology professor told me. It will make you more restless and stressed. Maybe, try to avoid some coffee and sodas because they are like coaster rides, a sudden up and a sudden down. Even tea sometime, it has a slow drift and you don't feel its effect right away. And it drains you without knowing it. Try to drink a lot of water it will relax you a bit. And try to have a massage, even by one of your family member only. It will help you relax and maybe fall asleep. Use scented oil, powder or ointment. It depends on your mood or choice. Even a simple hand or head massage will help you relax. I think it is the time, even me sometimes I feel like that. A massage is my remedy, especially when my 4 year old daughter as her own initiative to rub my temples. (^^,)

I guess you have a lot of worries in your mind. Free your self from all these worries and try to relax. we can live today thinking about tomorow. What is important is that we should do whatever we can do today and not to worry tomorrow. For tomorrow will always come no matter what. Live each day at a time. And if you feel tired and worry about no job and ther are alot of things to do, better do first all the things you can do today and use mylot to relieve you nad remove your tensions inside you. goodluck

Iguess you dothe same thing. take a bath tell god that I elave my troubles tro you and sleep on them. By mornig you too would find a way. Noght may be a long one my dear friend but it has to end in the dawn.

This reminds me of a song by coldplay entitled "fixed you"
which everything is so wrong.
I know the feeling men! I encountered that whenever I feel stressed out or I have been worrying too much.
What I do is I let myself free from all the worries even for jsut a minute and let myself refresh from all the things that I have been thinking. Sure I won't get sleep easily but its my way of mking there.

well if you are feeling as tired as a horse and you cant get sleep maybe you got insomnia and you ned to be seeing a doctor.or if it is just all in your head you just need to let go of your worries behind.try to focus on what you can do.exercise.get yourself tired till the limit that you ll fall asleep even standing.this is just a phase which will pass through .so dont worry about it buddy.i am sure things will get fine.

Aches can be attributed to both the temperature change AND te stress. And you're describing insomnia perfectly..your brain doesn't wanna shut off 'cause you're worried.
Try to set aside the worries, take your mind off everything..clear your mind of all the stray thoughts..and I hope you'll be able to get some sleep.
If that doesn't work you can try some strong catnip tea, it'll put you to sleep in no time with no side effects whatsoever (don't you love herbs? Heh)

I know what you mean. Although we don't have winter here in my country but I tend to have one of those days where I feel that I can't do anything at all. Eventhough I'm physically exhausted but my mind is mentally alert and working. Try not to overwork yourself. I try to clean my house to keep me sleepy. It works pretty well for me. :)

When stress takes its toll on me I have trouble sleeping too! It could be a mixture of stresses, weather changes, and you also have to remember that you quit smoking not that long ago. I have noticed that since I have quit almost 3 weeks ago I still have trouble getting a full nights sleep. Just a suggestion hun, and I hope all works itself out. Take care, and take it easy!

If Worried too much try to relax urself..By taking a wlk or any other activity which gives u peace..And leave all thoughts out of u mind.Just think that whatever situation we r in today is only beacuse of our past deeds..No other person is reponsible for one's sufferings. Its just the person himself.
I fu think this way no other thoughts could bother u.Just concentrate on urself and not others.U have only ur life to live not others lives.Everyone has both +ves and -ves.SO be cool and try to work on ur negatives.
u could relax urself by listening to ur favourate musik.

I know what you mean, I've been feeling really tired these days...Not enough sleep for sure. Although I look forward to the springtime, there's a lot more things to be done during the day as well.
My advice is to take a nice long relaxing bath and just let yourself unwind. Hopefully by the time you get out you'll feel better. I hope you get a good night sleep soon, take care.

Hi, I've been suffering from insomnia again too! I put a post up a couple of months ago about it and Darkwing suggested it might be because of the full moon, which it has been this week! I've got no worries as such so really don't know why I just can't nod off! I've tried all the 'remedies' having a bath before bed (which wakes me up!) reading before bed time (then I contemplate the book as I'm trying to sleep) even having lots of fresh air and exersize - I was down at the beach a couple of days ago and we walked for miles! But no still tossing and turning! If you come up with a decent remedy let me know won't u?

I'm sorry you feel so tired.
With me it's just the opposite. With all the things I've been worrying lately and all the negative things happening I tend to sleep more.
I know it is a sign of depression in a way and I am doing my best to fight it.
It's that thing that when you go to sleep you kind of forget all the rest with the added bonus of being able to redirect your dreams :)
But even when I'm not worried or feeling down I usually have no trouble falling asleep and staying asleep. I guess I'm lucky.
Hope you can get the rest that you need.

I hear ya hon. I'm an insomniac and it's no fun at ALL.
I would suggest a warm bath - not too hot because it raises your blood pressure! When you've run the bath, but before you get in, toss in a couple of drops of lavender essential oil. That's good for helping people to sleep.
It may also help to place a few drops in an oil burner in your bedroom and light it about 30 minutes to an hour before you go to bed. Try not to do anything that will make your mind "busy" before you go to bed, such as being online strangely enough. When your mind is busy, it won't shut off and it makes it extremely hard to sleep.
I hope you get a good nights sleep soon.
Happy Easter!

I have the same feeling with you. I have to read books, care my child,do more and more home work. But I can't get a decent sleep.Because I worried if I hadn't reach my goal,I would loss my job.But I think everything will go smoothly in near future if I can do my best. I'm sure I will have very good sleeping.I think you can try put down your worried and enjoy your life in your lifetime .After all, lifetime is so transient.we must enjoy ourselves.

I used to fill tired all the time and stressed out I wasn't sleeping at night and I felt like there was a weight settting on top of my head pushing me down all the time. the first thing I did was have a heart attack (don't recommend that)the second thing I did was have a blood test done to see if I had hypothyroidizem which can make you feel run down and tired(don't have that) the 3rd thing I did was reluctently stated do yoga (this actual worked)now I'm more relaxed the fourth thing I did was start taking selerum root that you can find in health food stores this helps you relax and there is no side effects or risk of dependance. Now if I could just get my kids to do there homework and clean up there rooms I wouldn't have any stress.
