I have been to the emergency room 3 times over the past 4 years for what they are calling panic attacks. I feel like my heart starts racing for no reason, then i get light headed and dizzy and feel like i have to pass out. The more this happens the more scared i get, the faster my heart goes etc. The problem is, i don't have any insurance (can't afford it) and these trips are costing my dearly (about $2000 everytime I go). i wonder how many other people are in my position!

I have been admitted to the ER 4 times in the last few months and yeah ITS EXPENSIVE!!! Especially when youre freaking out and all bug-eyed panicky, thinking youre having a heart-attack at age 20!!! Of course, I overreact to everything and this tends to make anxiety a much bigger problem. I dont have insurance either and its costing a fortune. And of course, having to ride in an ambulance adds a pretty penny. The doctors at the ER always say everything is fine and nothing is wrong with me. That I need to get rid of some stress and not worry as much. And I'm like... "How do I eliminate stress?!" And they shrug. Good luck to you - sometimes in the very beginning of a panic attack I take long deep breaths and tell myself to calm down, nothing is wrong. Its worth a shot. Sometimes it helps, other times... it doesnt.

thanks and lik the other poster said, if you can carry a paper bag around, breathing in it can usually help with hyperventilation and help control that panicky fleeing feeling that rises up from deep inside somewhere and helps settle you.

i used to suffer from panic attacks alot and have also been admitted to ER its not a nice thing to go though its very scary. you should see your gp and get something to treat the anxiety then the panic attacks will stop. good luck and best wishes

Admitted no. Gone to the hospital in the midst of a panic attack because I had no idea what was going on? Yes. They did a thorough check and everything turned out fine, so they never admitted me. They prescribed me a medication for what they thought might be an inner ear infection and sent me on my way. It wasn't until a few months later they discovered I was actually having panic attacks. Then I wad diagnosed with a whole list of things.

Has nobody prescribed meds for you yet? there are some really good ones that make the panic attack much mor bearable. However, If you carry around a paper lunch bag, you can breathe into that when you feel it starting, and it should calm you down.
