I've recently heard from the news that a 5 year old girl named Kristia Mastula [I'm not very certain about the spelling] drowned in Boracay just this Wednesday. She was delivered alive to a nearby hospital but she died the day after due to excessive fluid intake.. News say the kid went to the water without the permission of her parents. Allegedly, no lifeguards were present in that situation. The kid could have been saved if there were at least one.... This is just a very sad news..
How do you feel when you hear about news items like these which concern very young children??
Who do you think is liable for the kid's death??

What?? Really?? this discussion really took my attention. I think its both parents and the resorts liabilities. If the parents were careful enough this would not not happend but i cant blame the parents alone. Its also the resorts fault because they didnt make sure that the place is safe considering the fact that the resort has children as customers too. Well, all i can do now is pray and hope that the accident would not happen again.

It's so sad. I think there's no lifeguard in boracay and the parents should be aware of that. And although they prohibit the kid from going to the water alone they should've keep a watchful eye on her. This is one type of accident that can be prevented. I hoep her soul will be at rest. Such a very young age for her to be taken away. So sad.

its very sad and tragic news. Parents are held responsible for it but it would not help at all blaming them as it already happen, the kid is gone. the only thing left is the lesson that well thought everyone. We should always watch our children and never left them alone. we should guide them always.

It makes me sad and think of my own children especially that we just came back from the resort this afternoon. I hope it would never happen to my own children or to any other children for that matter. Accidents happen no matter how careful parents are and taking extra precautions is better than being sorry later. I can't really say who is liable but in situations like this, it is always the parents who are always to be held liable first.

I am not yet a parent but I have already felt upset about such a report, so it must be much more difficult for someone like you to imagine such a situation - it must be harder for you to think: "What if that kid was mine??" Extra precautions really are needed especially considering a fact to this case that the Boracay island is one crowded place - one wrong look and the one you're guarding is gone..
I also hope this doesnt happen again to any other individual...

how the hell is that happened?? i knew boracay is always congested with people.. anyway the parents is liable for what happened to their 5 yr old daughter, it is their responsibility to look after them specially on that young age.. hope no more incident like that, its very saddening

I also think that most of the blame should be put to the parents. From the very start, they know that the sea is one dangerous place for a kid and not looking over the child very well may mean great danger - unfortunately, the worst happened to this pitiful 5 year old Kristia...
I am deeply hurt when things like this happen because that child might just change lives in the future but because of the fault of very few, that possibility is forever gone...
It's just very sad for me...

I guess it's about time to think more about the safety of children when swimming out. This incident isn't new anymore.
