Do you still have a ticking clock in your home?

i mean ticking tocking chiming clocks---which practically sing the hours of the day and night. i have one at home before.i've lived with such a clock for decades, and for my first several days in college,i cant sleep without those ticking-tocking sounds. some of my friends asked,"how can you live with that ticking-tocking thing all the time?it's annoying." but i am not annoyed.maybe to some people, the clock makes a mere mechanical noise, nothing more than an air conditioner or something else like that, but to me,it make me feel at home,i find comfort with that constant tick-tock-tick-tock sound,i feel that it's a sound of domestic peace,i like that feeling. Do you think your ticking clock is boring?or have you ever have one ?

I have a clock that ticks but it aint suppose to. It's just messed up. The hour hand is stuck so it just ticks away all day long. I havent thrown it away because I like the tiking sound. It reminds me of my grandmas house because she had one that ticked. Of course, her's was suppose to do it, not like mine that is just broken. I dont really pay any attention to it most of the time. At night it is kind of peacefull because I had when it is just completely silent.

I don’t keep any of these old clocks now. I did have several of these antiques at home when I was young. The ticking sounds that I heard once in a while somehow or somewhere always remind me of those sweet old country days.

You are right! That antique has quite a different feel to it.I don't have one of those at my place, but I used to love it at my granny's place! It was a huge clock with the pendulum swinging endlessly as I would lie on the bed by the window watching the piegons and the moon in the background. The one there sounded like Ting-tong whenever it hit an hour.At times I'd wake up at night and feel like I am lieing over Galileo's watch ,lol.I call it 'romancing with time',lol.

aha you remind me. long time ago, when i was young,i was in my grandparents'. everyday, every thirty minutes' gap the ticking-tocking clock would sound the hitting sound. it was like the church's sound, sounding beautiful. of course,if you were not pay attention to it ,sometimes you would be frightened. aha it was interesting. it was a happy time having the ticking-tocking sound.

i don't have one and i don't want to have. as i like sleeping in a very quiet environment.any sound will wake me up. and then,it will take a long time to fall sleep again. so i have never had one ticking-tocking clock. but i want to put one out of bedroom as it is beautiful.

No, I can't stand them, I can't bare the ticking of a clock, it drives me cuckoo! Ever since I was a child I used to hate ticking clocks, my grandad used to say to me that the ticking was your life ticking away and I guess I remember that, it's true you are hearing the ticking away of your life and that put me off ticking clocks for life!

I have a beautiful old antique mantle clock that has a pendulum in it and it chimes on the half hour and the full hour. I loathe loud ticking wall clocks in the bedroom but love to hear the old one chime away in the lounge.

I love the rythym of a ticking clock. I have two downstairs, and three upstairs! My husband still uses an old fashioned wind up clock for his alarm clock, and I love the sound of it.

I used to have one but that was when I was in Highschool. I was never annoyed of its ticking. It became part of our home. In fact, when you started this topic, I missed it so much for the simple reason that It was part of my youthdays

Most battery operated wall clocks still make a ticking noise don't they? I have one at work and when it is quiet, I am thinking coworkers might be bothered by it but no one has said anything so I guess not. I did find a battery wall clock that doesn't make a ticking noise but the battery only lasts about a year. I bought the clock because of its theme. However, the battery lasts less than 1 year whereas the ticking one lasts a few years. I used to miss my old wind up alarm clock since I misplaced it or maybe threw it out when I moved (I threw away a lot of stuff I wish I never did) but I had gotten over it (until I read this article!). Still, I have my great-grandmother's old pendulum clock that I start up every several years (I used to run it 24/7 but I figure that might wear it out and I want to keep it for generations to come). When I am running it, it takes me back to my childhood when my grandmother gave it to me... Oh I could keep writing but I must get back to work...

Yes we still have ticking clocks in our home, it can be annoying but you can also turn the sound down and we only have ours in the kitchen now not in the bedroooms which are at aone end of the home and the clock is at the other. I like the sound but not when I am sleeping.

I have had one before and I did like it. The ticking noise soothed me and helped me sleep. I don't have one any more and I have enough problems sleeping that I think a ticking clock would annoy me so badly these days lol. On the other hand though, maybe its what I need to help me sleep. It would make for interesting conversation if the cure for my insomnia was a ticking clock lol

I no longer have a ticking clock in my house, but I used to have a grandfather clock that would tick, tick, tick. It doesn't bother me at all to hear a clock ticking. It is rather soothing I think.
