Does anybody know of a flower that will grow in full shade?

The front of my house faces North and we have two huge spruce trees in the front yard, blocking all sun to the front of the house in front of my windows. Is there any kind of flower that will grow there? I'd love to cut down the trees, but thecity won't let us.

guess jasmine would be ok...check it up though. Cos it blooms at night so i think it should not require much sunlight.

I found these annuals that will grow in and endure in considerable shade in my gardening book. I hope this helps: Balsam, Calliopsis, Cockscomb, Godetia, Lobelia, Monkeyflower, Periwinkle, and Virgina Stock (Malcomia). I hope this helps. I know cockscomb, periwinkle, and Lobelia, produce beautiful flowers.

Last year I planted a geranium is a shady spot in front of our house and it did pretty well. The soil I planted it in is sandy and not very good quality. I was disappointed that the very cold winter we had got it and it didn't come back up this year. I have some hydrangea shrubs on the south side of our house. They survived the winter just fine. They're not flowers, but do get flowers on them. They're supposed to get pretty big from what I've read. Around 5 foot tall and about as wide. Another idea is something like marigolds or petunias. They're pretty and they're hardy. Easy to care for too.

I think Hostas are beautiful shade flowers. There is such a huge variety, so you can be creative with sizes and shapes... the flowers that bloom from them grow on a long stem that comes up the center and is just so pretty! You could probably find inexpensive hosta bulbs at Wal Mart. Also, they multiply, and I've even moved them to other locations, they get a little limp from the move, but they bounce right back!
