If a minor is to be circumcised, the best time to do it is closer to puberty, as Muslims do. At that time, the skin is most likely already separated from the glans, rather than fused as it is at birth. The procedure in a newborn requires first tearing the skin away, and that routinely causes gouges and pits in the glans.
Plus, the infant needs to heal in a fouled diaper and is unable to communicate if something doesn't feel just right during healing, increasing the risk for a dangerous infection and jagged scars. When cutting an infant, nobody could know how much above or below average the boy's size will become, so a desired degree of slack can NEVER be acheived, even if the cutter was so thoughtful as to have a certain result in mind.
Since 80% of the world does not circumcise and no national medical society on earth recommends infant circumcision, the best thing for your child is to leave him intact. The rate for cutting infants in the US (the country that cuts the most infants for non-religious reasons) is dropping - close to 50/50.
Every mammal on earth evolved a prepuce before there was surgery or soap. Just as in the female, the natural male organ requires no special treatement.

Please don't have your son circumcized, it's not necessary at all. Here's what they will do to your son, there's videos at this link http://www.circumcisionquotes.com/video.html

Wow.. Foxee, I'm surprised. How about letting mememama express a valid and much shared viewpoint about the harm of genital mutilation, which circumcision is, by definition. You do not have to agree, but every new parent has the right to use their own head to make an informed decision about this matter. I never gave circ. a second thought until I found out I was pregnant with a boy, and the research I did convinced me without a doubt that circ. was harmful and medically unnecessary. I'm sure this mama can make up her own mind... why so defensive of your choice to cut your children? In my opinion, people tend to have emotional, defensive reactions to make up for a lack of certainty in the rightness of their choices. And I think most rational human beings can see the flaw in thinking it's 100% normal and ok to cut off a part of a baby... regardless of what anyone told you, or that other people do it all the time... doesn't make it right, does it?

Go, bring him to the doctor now. Because a child can be circumcised as early as 5 days old. Let the doctor take a look at your child then you can talk about a schedule for it. The way I understand it, it is better for a child to have while he is still young because there will be less complications.

If you are going to circumcise your son, the best time to do it is as soon as possible. My own son was circumcised at one month old and I already think that was too late, but because of other health issues we could not do it sooner. Apparently, the older the boy is, the more pain they feel as they nervous system becomes more mature.

earlier the better! My sons were circumcised in the first week and they healed very quickly.
