Do I HAVE to get baptized to be accepted by God and Jesus?

If yes...do I HAVE to get baptized into a specific denomination? This is what is stopping me, because how do I choose which denomination (lutheran, anglican, baptist, etc) when "christ cannot be divided". I want to be baptized in CHRIST but not in a specific and separate denomination. Is it at all possible to be baptized, as an adult, in a non-denominational fashion? Are adults ever baptized? Do I have to know the minister who does it? Do I have to trust and respect him or her who does it? I think that I should. What if I don't find a person that I trust enough and respect enough for years and years? Should I just get baptized by anyone?

I think baptism is nothing more than a ritual. A formality of sorts. And I don't think God and Jesus are so narrow-minded as to require it of everyone. After all, what does it matter if you were baptised or not when in the end you fail to live by your faith.

Until a child comes to the age of understanding, he/she is not responsible. As I've explained in my response, baptism has NOTHING to do with salvation. Baptism is a command, but on the same level as commands to love our neighbours etc.

Baptism is not a requirement to salvation. 1 John 5:11-12 says "And this is the testimony: God has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life." There is no baptism mentioned here. To accept the Son of God, Jesus Christ, is the only requirement to be saved.
So, what is water baptism? It is not a ritual. It is a public testimony of a person who has accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Saviour. It is a first step of obedience. Jesus Christ was baptized, then if you want to follow Jesus, then you must also be baptized. It also symbolizes a new life.

Yes, you need to be baptized. Yes, adults are baptized all the time; even in those denominations that prefer to baptize infants, adults can be, and are baptized. And it doesn't matter much which denomination - the key is that you are baptized in the "name of the Father, of the Son, and of the Hold Spirit."

In my Church if a person has been baptized in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit even if that particular church is not following the whole law of
God, then he is accepted. I was baptized in a non-denominational church that I later learned did not follow the whole gospel but only what pleased them and when I joined my present church, they just said all I had to do was to take catechism and do my profession of faith.
I would say that you have to get baptized by the minister, pastor, reverend, or priest but not by a lay person for it to be effective. You should also pray to God to give you direction as to the right church to join.

I was baptized twice in my life. Once, as a Roman Catholic when I was still a little girl. The second one, was 3 years ago, as a Christian. Whatever religion you choose, it is better to ask anyone, say the pastor or minister, to give you a clear understanding about this baptism. Each religious groups have their own way of baptizing.

Baptism is not like a menu list or an ingredient that you have to pick up and choose to suite your taste no it is not. First if you really want to be baptized you need to be a catechumen meaning a person who wants to learn the why and what of a certain confession or creed. In the early Church you can not just ask for baptism for this early followers of Jesus it is an event and an entrance into communion with the Lord and his Church so why don't you go to a library first and study comparative religion and find it out. Baptism, Confirmation and the Holy Eucharist is called the Sacraments of Initiation in the early Christian and so toady in the Catholic Church. God bless.

Anakata....since most of these discussions were about 10mo.-1yr ago, I would like to know if you have come to any conclusions on baptism? Have you read up on these scriptures in the bible and have you found a church to go to?

Jesus gave us an example how we should get baptized. Being the Son of God, He didn't really need to be baptized but why did He do it? As I said, to give us an example.

In our Church, if one has already been baptized in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit(Ghost) it does not matter as long as it is by a minister of that religion. Our Church elders try to find out because there cannot be a second baptism, but if you had no idea, that is not counted against you because you were ignorant.. I know that the Mennonites and Anabaptists only baptize you when you are an adult and have changed your life for the better. Roman Catholics, Lutherans, Reformed and Presbyterians baptize infants, but they also baptize those who came to Christ on adulthood. You have to get baptized by the Minister of the Church you attend. It does not matter if you do not know him that well, because sometimes a minister is called to another field and the one that comes in his placed is usually examined as to his character and reference.

Ask God and Jesus. They are the only ones who can tell you for sure.

Hi there.
I don't believe that you do have to be baptized to be accepted by God and Jesus. I have been but that does not mean that if I was not that I couldn't be accepted by God and Jesus. Just look at the amount of people there are around this big world!! If we all had to be baptized then there would be a lot of people who would still not be accepted at all.
Catch ya later.

Baptizing is only a sign of the fact that Jesus has saved you. All the children are accepted by God before they are baptized. Or as an adult, when ever you will be baptized. You do not have to know the minister who does it. One thing you must know is that when you will be baptized, you accept also the religion of the church where you are baptized. Every minister may baptize you, but you must choose a religion.
