What age did you first give your child something sweet to eat or a soft drink?

My inlaws make fun of me and my husband because we don't give our kids coke or dr pepper. And we don't give them tons of candy and donuts to eat. For breakfast every morning I fix them eggs or bacon or sausage, I will sometimes give them waffles or pancakes but no donuts! And they can have a bowl of ceral one time a week! And as far as drinks, they can have milk, water, juice and if we go out to eat they can have some sprite. But NO soft drinks at all. So I was wondering when did you first give your kids sweets and soft drinks?
By the way my kids are 3 and 4 years old. They will NOT drink Soft Drink until they are teenagers!

Shame on your inlaws for making fun of your parenting decisions. They don't have to be around your kids when they can't go to sleep because so much sugar is in their system, etc.
My son is 2.5 and almost never has anything sweet. We give him a pinch of something occasionally, or he has birthday cake at a party but only when I know he will be active sometime before the day is up.
Soft drinks, no way. Not even sprite. He likes water and we splash a little juice in it for occassional flavor. Right now he doesn't know what he is missing and I am going to keep it from him as long as possible.
My idea on when I will start allowing these things is when he has a real understanding of what eating healthy really means and why it is important. I assume that will be different ages for different kids.

My toddler at 2 has her first taste of Sprite. It was ok because it is not caffeinated. I just gave her some sprite if she eats meat because I noticed that it will help digest the food much faster. She is a picky eater and she likes the Kellogs cereal and then for snacks it will be fruits. Her favorites are spaghetti, chicken soup, rice, chicken tenders and fish. I have to make lots of chicken soup because this is the only way she will eat her vegetables.
I just have to be vigilant with what juice she is drinking because some juices, they have more sugar than sodas. She drinks lots of water and her soymilk. I watched out with what she eats too because I know too much sugar makes her like a jumping bean...=)

My girls are 2 and 5. They have never had fizzy drinks. My eldest claims she doesn't like them even though she has never tried them.
They do have cereal but they have either porridge or wholegrain cereals with very little sugar like weetabix or shredded wheat.
They have never had donots and because we don't eat sugar they have had very few sweets. I do let them have chocolate a bit, but only a small piece for a reward if they have been good.
