Stuck at a turning point-now what?

I have been practicing my creative writing as of late. I have never had a problem writing about happenings in my life but fiction is a stretch of my mind.
So I have been looking up writing prompts and going for stories there.
The strangest thing is this: The story goes along great, I see the scenes and pictures in my head and then suddenly mym ind is like "Whoa, hold up, what now?" Then i am stuck.
Does this happen to others. What do you do to move on? And do you walk away for the moment (as I do) or do you stay right there and wait.
Looking forward to others thoughts.

I dont know if you have read my discussion about my novel but all my writing inspiration comes to me in my sleep. most of the time i obviously have to expand my dreams or they would be short novels but i mix my dreams up too. with nightmares sometimes too... you never know what twist my creativity will take. Thats the genius. My brain does all the work and i just have to wake up and write what i have seen in my head whilst getting alot of rest. Lol. If for some reason i am sat up writing i will walk away eventually because i get bored of trying to think of something i know will come to me when im out or about. I just take a notepad with me wherever i go. I usually have to buy a new one each month with all the little snippets i write (I cant write a whole novel start to finish can you guess? lol)

I walk away from it. Sometimes I go do a little housework, where my brain can wander while my hands are busy. I mentally step back from the story and replay it in my head, seeing if any one scenario will take me past the sticking point. Often enough, it happens without my realizing it, and I daydream quite a ways beyond the spot that brought me up short. Then I can return to it.
