I'm sick. I just hate it when I catch a cold. Though there are tons of medicines in the drug store, I try to avoid having it unless the sickness worsen. So, do you have a "natural" remedy for a common cold? What is it?

I am so sorry to hear you are ill! Hope it passes soon! What you need is - kleenex with balm to avoid a red nose - vitamin C - echinea - sympathy - hot drinks - comfortable warm clothes - coughdrops - some nice DVDs - someone nice to pass time with - someone nice to help you cook, get you stuff, clean up after you, and to cheer you up

Ive got ordinary household paper, i don't care much about the sore nose thing as long as i can breath with it. Ive got a multivitamin thing and a C-vitamin thing (both from my mother) so thats checked. dodn't have any coughtdrops, my dvd is skrewed and i dont have anyone that would spend that amount of time with me. One nice thing is that my mother cooks for me (and it tastes damn good) so i dont need to do my extremely basic cooking. Have put on some clothes and going put one a few extra layers. Ive inherited the modern caveman thing (walking around in just underwear) from a friend, and been doing at home without thinking about it. Feels like ive drunk at least 6 cups of tea, in two days. I dont mess upp to much, but still my mother helps me with the messes i happen to do. Thanx for your tips, going to try to follow them until this sh*t is over.

Drink cold water and eat chicken soup. Stay in bed, except to respond to my discussions. :)

when you have clogged nose you can try having spicy-hot soup to declog your nostrils. plenty of juices and fluids also helps. avoid cold drinks as it may worsen your colds. avoid blowing your nose too hard as it may affect your ears as well. when i have colds i just prepare myself a bowl of soup with crushed chili pepper.

Ok, sounds like a very good tip. Thanx for sharing it with us. My first thought about the spices was that you took them directly in the nose, it sounds lame but sometimes i think a little akward.

Whenever I have cold, I dont take any medicine. I usually do a lot of gargling, at least 2 to 3 times a day. I take glass of luke warm water and put some salt into it. Then i garglle the water. I have observed that the saying that says "If you take medicine for common cold it goes away in 7 days and if you dont take medicine it goes away in 1 week" is very true. So I dont take any medicine. And more over cold or cough is a way of expelling out body toxins which get collected in our and donot get out through urine or stools. I take medicine when I have a severe cold problem. another thing you can do is take hot water in a bowl and put some turmeric into it and then cover your head and the bowl with a big cloth so that the steam dosent go out. Then take deep breaths and let the steam get into your nose and clear the blockagwe.

I usually apply some cold ointment like vicks or ucalyptus oil and try to avoid curd and buttermilk. If it is very severe, then I take tablet. In any case a cold will last for three days but the severity will be less with medicine, that is it all.

Dear Friend, Common cold has no medicine. All the medicines that you take are just to reactivate your immune systems. But, these tonnes of medicines can give you tonnes of side effects. all you need to do is to build up your immune systems. tonite, just have raw 10 ml of brandy, before you go to sleep. that is the best medicine. dont mix anything with it. and this evening dont go out anywhere. just drink warm water for the next three days. and then from tomorrow morning have this. 2 stems of coriander leaves, 2 curry leaves, 2 leaves of holy basil, 2 leaves of mint leaves, 1 pepper. make a paste and have it daily morning with 5 ml of honey. use this for two months and let me know how you feel. wishing u a early recovery. mike the lil smiley devil

Drink alot of water and it will flush away the virus from your naval cavity. Also get some Moringa juice and drink about 3 cups every 6 hours, you will notice a great relief!

Besides the usual chicken soup (home made preferred and not the packaged kind) I boil some water, add lemon and honey, a touch of cayenne pepper, and a few gratings of ginger. I then lay on the couch, put a blanket over me, a pillow under my head, and watch Tv. I also drink plenty of water.

While this is an old discussion, the time of year has rolled around to make it current again. I take lots of vitamin C, drink a lot of water and orange juice and eat chicken noodle soup. I use saline spray to help with congestion. I also like hot tea with honey, lemon and some whiskey with it. I don't know how well it helps the cold, but I sure feel better after drinking it!

In reality, there is no cure for a cold. As a wag puts it, “a cold takes a week to subside on its own, and with medication, it takes 7 days”. Interesting!!! If the cold does not improve with a week, here are few natural remedies for alleviating the distress of a common cold. 1. Take rest. Increase your fluid intake by drinking hot soups, broths and other light fluids. This will thin the mucus. 2. Crush ginger and basil leaves and add to tea(without milk). This homely remedy works wonder for many people. 3. Munching a clove of fresh garlic helps to clear lung congestion and sinus. 4. Massage with few drops of eucalyptus oil on the chest and cover with counterpane to create a warm steamy fermentation. 5. Soaking feet in a basin of warm water with a few drops of pine or eucalyptus oil can be very soothing. Hope it will help you!! Thanks.

Whenever i got colds i just double my vitamin c intake, instead of taking it once a day i take it twice a day. For a natural remedy for colds, just have enough rest, sleep early, take plenty of fluids specially juice rich in vitamin c. Sometimes the weather also has something to do with colds. In my case, i normally got colds during summer, and so as much as possible i stay in cool place.

Try gargling with hot (make sure you don't burn yourself though) green tea every morning first thing after you wake up and at night before you sleep. It's extremely effective for colds and coughs.

what i do is to drink lots of water and most importantly to get a lot of rest. if you rest more your body will have a chance to get stronger and fight the cold. the more rest you get the faster you will get better.

I have used cough drops, hot tea, honey and vitamins. It seems that colds hang on longer than they used to. I guess it's that the virus is getting stronger and we are not able to fight it off as well. Getting plenty of rest and being sure to drink at least 8 glasses of water a day helps, too. Hope you get to feeling better soon.
