I was wondering if the members at Mylot ever rated some other member a "Negative Rating" for fun.
Yesterday I reached my first 100 posts and got a star rating..... that Red Star I got my rating as 9..... 87/100. But, today I see that my rating has reduced to 86/100. And this has happened without me doing anything wrong. All the discussions that I have started were of good subjects and I did get good no. of responses from other Mylotters. Apart from me responding quality replies to others dicussions.
This makes me think. Do some Mylotters give other members a "Negative Rating" for fun. Have you experienced something like this yourself.

Actually, I don't think that many people "rate" anyone. All those little things take time. Ratings, tags, best response, etc. etc. and some choose to just ignore them so they can earn more by posting more.
I believe that all those things help a little to increase your pay on mylot.
Giving anyone a negative rating just for fun makes no sense to me, but then their are some pretty simple minded people in the world.

No. I seldom give negative ratings. I only give it if the response was really offending and even if I wanted to report it, technically, they weren't really offending anyone but it's just the way that they phrased their answers that was a little bit offending. I also gave a negative rating to a guy who copy-pasted one of my discussions. I forgot to use the "!" button.

Thats true. Not everyone in here is for money. Atleast I am not and there are many people like me who feel likewise, i.e., that their reputation is more important that the money they earn in here.
And, it would be wrong If you start rating others response just coz you were in a pranky mood.... or you ware not in a mood to respond or you dont have a knowledge of the subject and think what the person talkin is "wrong".
Enjoy Mylot...... :)

I give everyone a positive rating. I have only gave a bad rating a couple of times. That is when the stuff was just nonsense to get points. I do think some people give a negative rating if you do not share the same point of veiw as them. I enjoy the different points of veiw on here. I give a positive rating even if you disagree with me. Giving a negative rating just for fun would be mean and childish.

Kukkad, I have checked some of your topics and responses and I cannot understand why anybody would want to give you negative feedback. You alway post good topics and you also post quality responses. I rate almost everybody a plus and if I think they deserve a negative, then I just don't rate them. We are all part of the myLot community and we should be striving to help each other in any way we can. I will have another quick browse through your discussions and responses and I will rate them a plus and I will also give you a plus for this one to help restore you to your former glory.

I really wouldn't worry too much about your star rating. It is all worked on an algorithm and fluctuates quite a bit.
Just keep posting and enjoy yourself.

I do not do anything for fun. The things I do i must have a reason for doing it. I also do not rate anybody responds for fun. I am a serious person when doing things. I don't play a fool of others.

I can count the negatives I have handded out on my one hand. I only do it when someone is breaking the rules. Otherwise I give them a +. I am one of those that always rate though. The people that ansers in mine are more or less likely to get a plus for each post (unless they break mylot rules) and by getting best response their rating also goes up. I also rate most of the discussions I answer to =) I think that it is important!

No I seldom give minus rating. If I do not find any comment worth rating, I leave it as it is and just to other comments/topic. Minus rating I give only in such condition where commentor has made joke/fun, I mean wrong posting. This is discussion site one should make it a place of joke. I started with 7 star rating and now I am at 8 since 45 days. No increase or decrease is observed.

I rate people but I only give them a "+". I actually can't bring myself to give someone a "-" these days. So even though I feel they deserve it, I just don't rate them.

I would honestly never give a bad rating for fun, i mean this is something that may get someone angry, and i do not like to do this. Something you should do is not rate them if you just feel you should neg. rate them for fun. Just forget it and don't rate them at all. I would never do such a thing! I most ly positive rate, unless the post if really really horrible

That would not be a nice thing to do. This is not a site to play games like that. The star does fluctuate sometimes as one of the other responses have said. Don't worry about that. I am here to read the discussions and read the interesting things people say.

No. i never do that. and i can never think that anyone will do a thing like that. that is a very nasty thing. people are serious here. i know how much i appreciate everyone that is rating my discussions with a positive rate. I always rate a discussion. and i never give a negative rate. if i feel that there are people that are making fun or abusing this site, i will report them, without hesitating.

You are right. We value our reputation and have worked out for it. And, if someone out there just tries to bring you down for no reason....... it'll really be bad for all the Mylotters and for Mylot as a website.
I have never given a negative rating to anyone. Even if a response was nothing in relation to the discussion, I still have never rated a negative. But, now I feel we should. We should weed out the weeds. And keep this space as clean as possible.

You are right negative rating is not meant for our personal opinions as we are no judge to decide what is right and what is wrong. As a healthy discussion is one which has responses both in favour and against. But I think you should atleast rate the responses/discussion which you like +ve.As rating helps in deciding the reputation of a member and which in turn I think plays an important part in the earnings of a member. This also encourages the members who really take interest in responding to the discussions.

I for one do not rate a person negatively, for fun as you say, or just because they have a differing viewpoint. I think that is what makes for interesting discussions. We can't and won't all see things the same way. Others shouldn't rate you negatively based on that. The only reason one should be rated a -, in my opinion is if they are abusive, use foul language, give a simple yes or no answer, or break any of mylots rules, including copy and pasting without giving credit to the original source. I know many of my friends feel as I do on the subject of star rating. Unfortunatly you will always have those that mark a - because they don't like what you say. It is really sad. Yes, I think we have all experienced it at some time. I'm sorry this has happened to you.

I that is not a fun at all.. first this can make some reputation get busted and it may have an affect to their motivation in making post.
Plus, this could hunt you back.
Just put yourself on the shoes of someone who got that all negative rating.
As much as possible I only rate positive and if I don't like the response I just ignore it.

I don't, but it wouldn't surprise me if there were people that do. My rating went from 99/100 to 92/100 all in one day, and then it dropped to 89/100 the next day. I didn't do anything to anyone, I'm always nice, and my rating had been the same for months. So I'm not sure why it suddenly dropped. Either I offended someone inadvertantly, or people were just giving -'s for fun.
