Are these people nuts?

I live on a hill, in a fairly peaceful neighbourhood, although we have buses come along our road, and it is fairly busy with cars up and down. Today we have had children racing up and down the hill on mini bikes, quad bikes and one of them on an electric scooter. Those tiny little mini bikes are illegal on the roads anyway but seeing a kid of 14 or 15 just about able to stay upright yet racing down the hill is incredible. Are these people completely insane? Have they no brains? The bus had to screech to a halt half way down the hill as one of these idiots raced out in front of him.
The worst thing is that their parents are sitting in their front garden watching the mayhem and laughing. They are actually encouraging these kids to race around on the road, are they completely nuts? I wonder if they will think the whole thing quite so funny when one of their children is hit by a car.
Sorry, rant mode switched off now. But that makes me so angry to think that if a car hits one of these idiots, the driver will be held to blame and not the kid or their parents.

I can not believe that. I could see if the parents weren't around, but if they are watching and laughing then something is wrong with this picture. It's like you said does a kid have to get hit by a car or something to smarten a kid and parent up. That is crazy. I couldn't imagine when my daughter is that age just allowing her to do it, watch it, and laugh. I think those people are sick!

Hun, I really wish I could understand why, but I can't. A friend of mine drives a bus, and he was saying that at the height of his cab, he can't see these kids on their mini bikes on the road at all.

This discussion hit a nerve with me. I can't believe that the parents of hese kids are just watching them do this. And then for them to think this is funny is completely apalling!! Where I grew up and my parents still live we see teenagers who just got their drivers license tearing dwn the town street at 45-50 mph and the speed limit is 25. This is a very busy street and has a ton of little kids on it walking to and from school. There have been a few minor accidents and yet the police have really done nothing except hand out a few tickets. Despite the citizens constant warnings and complaints.
I can put money on the fact that if there would be an accident the parent of that child will be the first to point the finger of blame at the other person involved and not at themselves or their children.

I can only agree with you hun, and when the accident does occur, as it inevitably will, the parents will be the ones screaming about claims and compensation and laying the blame on the driver, anaything but accept responsibility of their own actions and the actions of the kids.

I live fairly near the top of a very steep hill. We have a lot of antics going on up and down the hill. Recently people have started pinching wheelie bins and "bin surfing" down the hill. We found our dustbin the other side of Main Street, about 10 mins walk away! I think the kids you've described and the nutters that do bin surfing are completely nutso! They're taking their own lives in their hands and as for the parents watching - well they're nutso too.

Is there a park nearby where they could ride? I know some parks have rules against it, but another possibility is a large parking lot. Are there any shopping areas that have lots that are too large for them?

I really wish they would go elsewhere to ride these mini bikes, somewhere off road. These bikes are illegal on the road and as they are so small, drivers can't see them until it's too late.

Some parents make me really sick. Im fearful if my brother gets too close to the road, or does down a slide backwards lol. He would have NO chance doing something as dangerous as that around me. I cant belive some parents bring their kids up so irrisponsible! Ive always belived the majority of bad kids come from bad parents and if a kid does wrong in some way the parents should be the first to be looked at.

The kids don't seem to be out on the street today, I wonder if someone has said something to them. I know one of my neighbours was quite cross with them yesterday, maybe he has spoken to them. I can't understand their attitude to be honest, their kids do something dangerous and they think its funny

You see people on this stupid little bikes where I live too, I think they look like idiots and don't know why people pay so much money for the things. It's not safe anyway and using them in the road is just stupid, so I'd have to agree yes these people are nuts.

Yes, hun, they are expensive little toys and when you see a *big* kid perched on them wobbling all over the road I wonder why they do it.

Ack, those drive me crazy on open roads!
In my neighborhood, we have kids on those, as well as go carts and go peds (a razor-style scooter with an engine).
People drive pretty fast here, too (my other pet peeve) and I worry about an accident happening.

yes, it often happens, instead of blaming those racing fellows, driver is mostly held responsible at the time accident.
Parents must counsel their children and let them know what risk they are taking.

Oh honey I was just about to ask where the parents are - but they're watching this happening? It goes beyond the pale that they are sitting laughing at these dangerous antics and the place is most certainly not on a busy road! These parents would be the first to jump up and down and bay for the blood of any driver who actually ended up hitting their off the rails kids! Surely safety should come first - it is just plain ridiculous! Sorry now I am ranting but I can't help it - I am afraid I would have to say something! xxx

Please feel free to join in my rant hun. One of my neighbours has just gone down to the parents, but I very much doubt they will stop the kids somehow. The fact that they actually thinks its funny, defies belief.
