I have been a member at paypal for a long time and never had a problem with them. They are a very secured site and notify you if something weird goes on with your account

I've never had a problem with paypal. I don't know how your friend could have gotten ripped off. It is one of the most reliable sites on the web. Just go to the site http://www.paypal.com and follow their sign up instructions. They are pretty easy to sign up with. Good luck and welcome to myLot.

The only way you can lose money with paypal is if you're running a site they don't allow they can freeze your account. If you're selling tangible products they will protect your funds very well. But beware of people who buy things then make false claims against you and say they didn't get what they paid for. Especially if you're selling ebooks or hosting or other service related products. They can do chargebacks and take the money and the products and they won't protect you against it. It's all up to you. You need to make sure that you don't accept credit card payments. The best thing to do is to use a debit card with your account and only load it with funds enough to add money if you need to, a debit card can't be charged back, but a bank account can.
