can we ever do a service without accepting some returns

can we ever do any service for someone without expecting something in return or without doing it as a return for some favor done to us some day

I think people today have become gready in what they will do and what they want. I try to do as much as i can for everyone with out expecting anything in return. How ever if i ever do need anything and ask them to help me out i kinda expect them to help me. If they don't i get upset and stuff.

I always try to help out my friends and family without expecting anything in return. I mean, I do have my limits to this, but there are so many occasions that I've done things for my family and friends and never expected anything in return.
