Do you think that e-mail will eventually replace the postal service?

It will never happen for many reasons .... companies will still have to send our hard copies of certain documents, people will still need to sign certain papers and for those two reasons alone, there will always be written mail rather than through the electronic system. My partner and I have a small business and we would not trust any company that could not send us an original hard copy document. We do use the internet for many things but when it comes to the security of our business, we want to see a signature on the piece of paper we are holding in our hand.
My partner sends cards and gifts to her daughter ... and to mine too as well as to our grandson. Sometimes she will send them a note and they all go snail mail rather than email, because the email is much less personal. She rightly says that if she receives a hand written letter it means much more, and shows that the person has made a real effort. I agree with her on this one.

e-mail probably wouldn't really be able to replace snail mail, for the simple reason that computers haven't reached EVERY part of the globe. for example, where i live, in the philippines, we use mobile phones as the dominant form of communication. people often don't use (or don't have) email as their dominant communications tool. and blackberry isn't really popular here as well, given that they don't have that service in their carriers.

I don't think email will replace normal postal service, not within my lifetime anyway. There will always be some people who will not have internet access, however advanced we go! Besides you won't be able to send parcels via the internet. I do think though that email has already replaced a large part of the postal system, when was the last time you sent a letter?
