Samples of my grandaughter's art............

My grandaughter loves drawing and never goes anywhere without her sketch pad and pencils. She stayed at my house for the weekend and I took some photos of her sketches. I have posted a few of them in my profile and I would like to get opinions on them as she has very low self esteem and claims her sketches are hopeless. I think they are quite good for a thirteen year old. What do you think?

Wow this is really good. I think she would become a great artist if she keep up her good work. For a thirteen year old this is a good sketch indeed.

I don't think she will every give up her art. She already has plans to be a fashion designer when she leaves school. Thanks for commenting.

Thanks for your very kind words gabs. She has some nice sketches of wolves so if you email a photo of Gissi to me, I will ask her if she can sketch it. I can email a copy of it or post the original to you.

Well well done. I gave her a (+) but isn't that a rather unusual subject for a 13 year old?

I'm glad you are encouraging her. She does have talent. Next visit take her to the library and look in the art section for some beginner drawing instruction books.
You could also get her a subscription to an art magazine to inspire her. If she has a particular interest - like drawing animals or drawing people or drawing cartoons - there a magazines about that or magazines with pictures of that subject for her to use as models.
And for her birthday maybe get her some paints or other medium you think she would like.
Of course, in a year or two she may rebel against anything you offer! Teenagers, you know. :-)
Enjoy her.
Do you do any kind of art yourself?

I think she can draw and sketch almost anything except animals. Her greatest wish is to be able to sketch a horse. She loves horses and she has been trying to draw one since she was seven years old but none of them have been to her liking. I myself couldn't draw a straight line. My talents are in the field of music and my grandaughter is also very interested in music.

I took a look at a few of them and I think they are great. I am also goth too so I hope she would value my opinion about it :) Maybe, Maybe not though. Tell her she is doing a great job and should look into some art classes when she gets to high school. That is what my sister did and she also went to college for art. She has a really great job now!

She will be delighted to meet another goth even though she claims she is no longer a goth. She doesn't go in for the piercings but she loves to wear the long black and purple dresses and she has beautiful long flowing hair down her back. She will be delighted by your words of encouragement and thanks for posting them.

I think she is quite talanted , why don`t you enter them into a contest see what happens maybe she win .
That would give her a boost in confidence , but I wouldn`t do this without her knowledge . Ask her first before doing something like that .
GOOD LUCK

I think she´s very talented. Her drawings are different from what thirteen year olds usually create. They are original and extremely expressive.
Maybe showing her our comments would make her feel a bit more sure about her artwork? If she carries on like that she can become a unique artist.

By posting her work, you are also encouraging her to be more creative. That is a wonderful Grandmother. Kids need encouragement. She is very talented and 13 is a very impressionable age. Good for you for taking interest in her.

Actually, if that is freehand, she is amazingly good. At that age, i could only draw trees in winter. I think that her next birthday present should be a really good art set and a few art books so she can develop her talent. you never know, she may be the next famous artist!

If you could just see her bedroom. It is full of art material and we still buy it for her. It costs me a fortune every time I take her shopping with me because she always wants to visit the art supply shops.

Oh alexandria, you got yourself a very talented granddaughter. Her sketches are unique, artistic and spoke a lot of character. For a 13 years old, she definitely had the talent to pursue it. Print out this thread and show to her all the responses here. This can help boost her confidence.

I really like her drawings! I must say I;, quiet impressed. At such a young age, she can already draw really well! She must not be ashamed of it..she should be proud instead. She has the talent and she could be really great if she draws more and practice. I just noticed that all the girls on her drawings are crying. There was one common factor,, tears,,, I can feel the sadness in them. I dont know, I'm not really sure, its just my impression.

I think she is very talented! Her drawings are quite good! I did notice though, that they are all sad or crying. Is she going through some bad times right now? Maybe something to keep an eye on.

Thanks for commenting estherlou. I think her drawings are based on some of the music which she listens to. Her favourite is Evanescense. She sketches the art work that is on the covers of some of the cds so I think that must be where she gets her ideas from. She is far from going through a bad time rather the opposite. She is a very lively and fun loving person with a very bubbly personality just like my daughter.

Very nice imagination and proportions. She has talent and I'm sure it will make a useful hobby. Continue to encourage her and also get her to meet good artists who will give her tips. Lots of kids have talents that are not utilised fully. Make sure she gets the right training and opportunities to use her talent and I'm sure in 10 years her paintings will be on my wall!!

I have no space left on my walls. Every week when she comes to visit, she brings me another drawing and I have to hang them on my walls. Some are really nice and I have had these framed but if she keeps it up, I will have to get some more walls built...lol. Thanks for your nice comment.

Did she sketched it only using her graphical memory? Thats awesome, I think she should nurture that talent. She must practice her craft to improve more and maybe one day you will have granddaughter having a her own paint exhibition.
Its good to attach herself on art, many expert that kids who are aware about arts are simply have intellectual advantages than those who are not. When she realizes that she has a talent then it will lead her to understand she has something to be proud off thus boosting her self esteem.

Yes abednego, she has great visual memory and can remember even the tiniest of details. As for practising, she is never without a pencil and paper in her hand. Thanks for your nice comments and I am sure when she reads them it will certainly give her a boost.

That's good for her age :)
Maybe you can enroll her in an art class. But one that has a teacher who can motivate the students to improve. God knows, some art teachers do nothing but put you down.
Hehe, I see she's into horror flicks? I can relate! XD

She used to attend art classes when she was living with me but now she is living in another county and my daughter is finding it difficult to locate a good art teacher. Yes, she is into horror flicks but only in moderation. My daughter decides what films she is allowed to watch, which is a good thing, otherwise she might lose the run of herself.

She's too good for a 13 year old. Its a great piece of imagination. Tell her to carry on with her hobby. I wished I could draw. I am almost 30 and I cant even come even 1% as good as your granddaughter.
Pass on my Kiss to her........ :) and tell her to keep drawing. Maybe, one day we will find her work on "Christies"......... wow....... :)

Ah kukkad, you must be like me. I can't even draw a straight line using a ruler and my grandaughter tells me it is easy...ha, ha. I don't think she would part with any of her drawings even for "Christies". I have a few of them hanging on my walls, maybe I could offer these..lol.
