it depends on what movie it is and how bad I want to see it or how good I have heard it is. A lot of times my hubby and I just buy the dvds and now we have so many we can start our own rental store! :)

The cheaper ones i also prefer to buy them. But, for the costly ones i just rent them and them make a copy of it for my personal viewing. Its not legal but i think that its the best thing to do, when you want something and you can get it cheap. So, why spend more on it. I also tried to download some movies from the internet, its also a good source of getting movies. You can get loads of them.

I would buy it so that I can watch it all over again whenever I want to.
Especially those anime series, there are some anime series that are on dvds now. They are more cheaper compared to a collection of vcd. A Dvd would cost you around P1200 - P1400 compared to a collection of Vcd that would cost you into almost twice or thrice the price. But of course, if you really want to save money like some people do. You might want to buy pirated dvd copies, those are way much cheaper!
Thats why the entertainment industry is losing a lot of money because of these. Its up to you whether you would choose the original or the pirated copies.
Its your choice though.

I rent DVD's from Netflix. Netflix is like my old video store. If you damage your own DVD your out of luck, and personally, I can't afford to buy DVD's.

I like to rent and to buy movies. For several years I did not have cable and so we rented and purchased a lot of movies. We would go to Blockbuster and they would have new release, previously viewed movies on sale for less than $4, so we would often buy them instead of renting them. We've bought our fair share of stinkers, but for the most part we have accumulated a nice video library.

I buy some and rent some. Usually I only buy them when they are on sale. My hubby likes to watch movies over and over again. My kids borrow from us as they do not have cable, saves them money, they just borrow from dad's library of movies. We have lots.

Both.
I rent through Netflix (but only after watching trailers, reading reviews, and perusing what the critics have to say--most often via Rotten Tomatoes.com.)
If I really like a movie, then I buy. Typically via Amazon.com, Half.com, or Hollywood Video (e.g., when they have those buy 3 or 4 for $20 deals).
