Many associate the word and use it to mean the same as holy war. In actuality, the word menas a difficult but important task in life given by god. One muslum as an example said that raising children is an example of jihad. It does not mean holy war in itself. it is only meant that holy war is a jihad. A holy war is considered to be a difficult but important task in life so the word in the media became synonomous with that meaning.

I am not muslim either, but it has always been my understanding that "jihad" means Holy War. I too would like a more in depth definition of the meaning from the muslim point of view. What constitutes a Holy War?

thanks for your quick response, i also confuse what is the meaning of holy war, what is the parameter that they say it is a holy war, it is confusing, like in my country or the terorist, they said they jihad, but i think they are more like harmfull people, killing many innocent
