Do you like to eat out at a Mexican restaurant or make your own at home?

I personally prefer to eat out in a Mexican restaurant. I have tried making taco salads at home and other mexican foods but I don't have much success. The spices they use in their cooking is so much better. We have a favorite restaurant in our area called Rancho Viejo. We eat their quite often.

I make a good Mexican meal when I can get the ingredients, and not to boast to much but it would generally be better than anything I would be able to get locally. If I could get good Mexican at a local restaraunt, I would prefer to hae someone else do the cooking!

I cook Mexican dishes all the time at home. My husband is Hispanic and I've come to learn how to make ALOT of different Mexican meals. Most of the ingrediants we use are bay leaves (boiled in soups) and ground cumin. There is another spice called Espicias, (I think thats the spelling)which is used often. Whenever we go out to eat, it is diffently NOT Mexican, LOL.. we get enough of that at home. We usually go out for Chinese, now that I would love to learn how to cook!

Chilies are very important in alot of dishes for they are normally the base for alot of sauces!!! :D polo colorado is just one dish of many!

I love mexican food. I lived in Texas for 9 years and learned to cook it. In fact, I went to Mexico (the country) for 2 weeks when I was 15 and ate nothing but Nachos the entire time. There is some mexican dishes I don't like Menudo, Jalapenos. I love Chorizo (its a sausage you mix with scrambled eggs. LIVE IN PEACE

I have no idea how to make Menudo since I would never eat it but my understanding is that it is similar to a type of a stew made out of cow stomach. Chorizo is a wonderful sausage that you buy at the supermarket (I have seen it in stores outside of Texas)...ask the butcher he should know if they carry it. You cook it just like regular brekfast sausage and scramble eggs into it. It is out of this world. LIVE IN PEACE

twoey68 another good use for chorizo is use it instead of hamburger in spagetti and add some salsa for a little more mexican flare! At most resturants they use chorizo on or in burritos, polo machacado, and some places in fajitas! Menudo is made of hominy, beef tripe, and tomatoes with spices.. if made right it is very good! Pasole is better though it is hominy, lamb meat, and tomatoes with spices (and no its not any weird parts) the meat is like little meat balls!! So check them out sometime!!!

I generaly make my own. I have found there isn't much in the way of good mexican food in my area. Taco bell is nasty, but they closed here a few years ago. So I just do it here at home. Among my favorites are enchalada's (my specialty) I also make a good chilli. Steak and cheese quisadillas are a regular occurance in my house too. I try to keep the heat down though. I love hot spicy stuff but my kids don't always like it.

Ooo, steak and cheese quesadillas sounds sooo good. And I WISH our Taco Bell's would close. Ick. Taco Beuno is much better if you want Mexican fast food here.

I love mexican food and my boyfriend is full blooded mexican so I get to eat it often since that is one of his favorites. Before we met I used to cook it all time, there are many great recipes out there that are actually better than what you would get in the restaurants that my family asks for everytime I am cooking dinner.

Really? I would love to hear of some of those! Do you mind sending me some by PM or if you would rather you can send them to me at my regular e-mail address which is stevenmccrary@bellsouth.net. My family and I love Mexican food and if I could find some simple recipes to make myself we wouldn't have to eat out so often and save us some money. :)

I love mexican food. I enjoy going out for it at several local places and the thrill is no cooking or cleaning! I also like to make taco's and taco salads at home. It's a nice change of pace. Going out is fun too especially for margarita nights at the mexican places. We have one near our home that has a white cheese dip for the nachos. It is out of this world and a great mild but tasty flavor!

The white cheese dip that you can buy to go with chips is our favorite part of the meal at the restaurant where we like to go. There are four of us so I always get a big bowl and if we are very hungry I might have to order another one, LOL! :)

Yep, taco salad is one of my favorite Mexican foods. The restaurant we go to always offers it with chicken or beef but I prefer the beef. It is delicious! :)

I actually prefer to make my taco salad at home. I think mine tastes better. Maybe its just because I haven't found a place that makes good taco salad around here. Most of the time I prefer to eat out at a Mexican joint. We have a little Mexican stand at the end of our road that has some of the best Mexican food and its super cheap. I love their Chicken Burritos and what they call a big burrito too. My family of 3 can eat there for about 12.00 and be completely stuffed. Its also real mexican not tex-mex which makes it even better.

I'm a real hodge podge of nationalities among them Native American, German,Dutch, Spanish, French, Irish, Welch, English, Scottish, and yes..Mexican! Real American...huh? My one hundred percent Irish grandmother married my grandfather who was part spanish and Mexican..now my mom did make an "attempt" at Mexican cooking but her idea of Mexican cooking was chili and beans and the most god-awful guacamole--LOL She, uh, just wasn't a cook...I must have inherited my great-grandmother's skill though..she was a COOK...so somewhere along the line I got it in my head to do some real cooking ...I actually started off with French cuisine...yes the quiches, souffles, etc...then I started Mexican...I had decided to do a REAL all out Mexican feast on Cinco de Mayo...so I made gazpacho soup, my own version of guacamole, tamales wrapped in corn husks..have any idea how LONG that takes..LOL..and for dessert homemade Coffee flavored flan...oh, yep..this gal can cook--LOL--

Mercy, I'm getting hungry reading your response, LOL. That would be wonderful to be able to cook like that. The best recipe I think I'm able to make is taco soup. That is really easy and I fix it a lot on Wednesday nights when we have church. :)

I don't eat out that much because of cost. But we have a high immigrant population from Mex., Cuba, the islands, Central America. You can get very authenic if you look for it. NOt the big popular tex mex rest., but the little whole in the walls. It's different than we are used to with the tex mex-i-fication of our palette, but if you have an open mind you'll never go back. we have one rest. here that the 5star chef hired only Mex housewives as his cooks. Awesome. I dream about their food sometimes.

That sounds great! We have had to cut back on eating out some ourselves. But sometimes with a family of four and high electricity costs if isn't cheaper just to eat out than try to fix at home and run up our electric bill.

I love to cook mexican food but there is a really good mexican restaurant where we live and they are pretty cheap on their prices. We don't eat out very often due to pinching pennies but we love to splurge once and a while.

It depends. If I have ALL the ingredients for tacos or fajitas, I like to make it at home. But eating Mexican food out is a treat as well. We usually go to a Mexican restaurant called Alfredo's, or another Mexican restaurant called Ted's. Yes, Ted's. Not my first choice of a name for a Mexican restaurant, but hey, it has awesome salsa! : )

I have never eaten at a Mexican restaurant. Normally I will try to make a few dishes at home that aren't as good as a friend of mine makes. We will usually have my friend make us a couple of mexican dishes.

I definitely prefer eating out. About the only passible Mexican resembling dish that I can make is Haystacks (and that doesn't always turn out so good). I can't stand Taco Bell but we do have some excellent restaurants around here. Uh-oh, now I've starting thinking about all that good food. Now I'm starving...I better go see if I can find something to eat. :)
