Book-smart is when a person is really smart and able to apply all the things he learned in school or while reading or applying all the principles or theories he have learned from his education. While street-smart is knowing all the "tricks-of-the-trade" that one learn in the "street" or experience outside the formal education. For example, one may not have even good or decent grades while studying but he is really smart in doing business and knows a lot of tricks and tips that he has learned in the field just by talking to different people, or just by observing the trends in the market, etc.

Street smart is basically on surviving skills.Based on how u gonna earn and plan your life while book smart?its everything accordingly to the book. Both has it owns pros and cons.Such as Street is surviving thru experience while book are thru adding knowledge so that we wont follow or do the same mistake as people did. So,in conclusion, both has it owns advantages.Depends on how u apply it in ur daily life.

One can have street smarts and have this incredible ability to relate with people and be able to empathize with people but to an extent those book smarts in your life help you to get through by being able to communicate to one through logic and reason that you often do not learn through the "street". Example, we learn how to read and write by knowledge through books. I believe the book is the foundation, and the "street" is the building. I believe it is ultimately dependent on the individual as to which one is more important in life. Why? Because it depends on what they choose to do or how they choose to live their life. For example if i wish to help others that have suffered problems, then perhaps it is better if i had some "street smarts", but if my ultimate goal is that of a business woman i simply may only need the guidance of a book to achieve this and do well in this as a career. In saying all this, it can be said that the two compliment each other and it would be the ultimate to have a nice mixture of both of these in one's life. As with anything, moderation is key. At last very good topic for discussion , something fresh and new.
