I personally use plastic bags for my groceries but I was surprised to read that they are very bad for the environment. I don't know exactly why they are bad. So I'm considering to avoid using them and switch to other types of bags when I buy my groceries.
Do you use plastic bags or other types of bags?

Well I am very aware of the enviorment when shopping......instead of using my Van I will walk to the store ( sometimes not possible cause of weather etc....) and I use Green Boxes which are enviormentaly Friendly and also use Cloth bags where ever i go. The plastic bags take decades to break down and when in a land fill will never break down so cloth are better........ and besides cloth can be reused over and over again where as the plastic just rip and tear and get holes in them fast.........

Good for you! walking to the stores also is very good for your health. Unfortunately here in California everything is spread out and you really need to use a car.

I use plastic when I get my groceries but have heard as well that plastic is bad for the environment . I believe the reason for this is that plastic takes so long to break down when it is not being used and takes much more time then paper or even material would .
Because I realize this , I always use my bags for something other then just groceries . They are good to use as bags in your waste basket when you want to throw out your garbage in the bathroom or other rooms in the house and you can recycle them as they will take them back at the stores in our area to reuse again if you want to get rid of them but don't want to affect the environment more :)

i use plastic bags for my groceries. I think its bad because plastic is NON-BIODEGRADABLE. What i do after i get home and place all the groceries in its proper places. I recycle the plastics. Or when i throw it... i put it in the NON BIODGRADABLE trash cans.

Thank you for this information. It's better to put the plastic bags in the Non Biodegradable trash cans instead of the regular trash cans.

the grocery store i shop at started a promotion of these heavy duty bags sort of like a beach bag but a square design with nice strong handles you would be shocked to see how much they hold. They have a great promotion 5 for 5.00 I can get all my groceries in these bags and carry them easily. best thing about them when they begin to wear they replace them free of charge. It is there plan to get rid of the plastic bags. I notice a lot of people now carry there own bags and i love it.I use mine all the time.

We use plastic bags most of the time just because it is much more convenient to have handles on the bags when we have to drag everything into the house.
If a place has the paper bags with handles then we always choose them instead:)
The paper bags also make great "trash cans" for my hubby's work area, great multitasker in my opinion.

I had a dilemma when I read about them being bad for the environment. Here is why: I normally use these bags to line our bin. They save me a lot of money from buying bin liners. In a way I am recycling it rather than just going straight to the bin. If I buy bin liners, their labels does not really say anything about them being biodegadeable. So, I'm saving money by reusing the bags from my groceries. Just for the record, I do recycle plastics, tins, bottles and paper. I'm also using energy saving bulbs at home.

Yes, that is right. Plastics are non-biodegradable item. It means that it would not decompose even after you have left it lying outside for many years. I do prefer paper bag but most shopping centers use plastic since the cost of using paper bags is comparatively higher than the plastic bags.
