that makes him one of the most revered President's of the U.S.?
I was in third grade when he was assassinated. It was a truly sad time, to see the television coverage, Jackie, Caroline and John-John, saluting his Father at his funeral. As I grew older, I learned that he was not the man I thought he was, as far as "Camelot" was concerned.
I learned Jackie was a special woman, standing by a man that "stepped out" on her quite often. I think I revere her memory more than I do JFK's. She truly put the "Lady" in First Lady.
So, what do you think still mesmerizes us about JFK?
I have enclosed a link to his White House biography.

His intellect. His speeches are still as relevant today as they were forty years ago. He was a man who saw deep into the future and, as such, knew how to move people. And while I don't want to say that his assassination made him a martyr, it did create a certain mystique, making people wonder what the world would have been like had he been allowed to go on.

Good post, since I have grown up, I have also learned the man was not such a great man at times. I think alot of his popularity was from being assasinated, he was good looking and had a young family. He did alot for civil rights, he also did some other good things. There are alot of people who are not aware that he was the first President who sent troops to Vietnam. He also did some underhanded things, I am talking about the numerous affairs. The Kennedy family have numerous skeletens in their closet, some people are not aware of things the family has done.

Most people either don't know, or forget to mention, he was a soldier and fought for our country. He commanded a PT boat, and I believe there is a book about his duty in the military. He did cheat on his wife, but seriously, how many politicians do you know who aren't dirty or corrupt? If this is the lone bad thing about him (infidelity), I'm hard pressed to say he's not worthy of respect.

It has something to do with his, "Ask not what your country can do for you.." speech, but I do think Jackie had a lot to do with his success. He probably wouldn't have been as admired if she hadn't been behind him. It's too bad she wasn't born a generation later, when she could've been in front.
