What Do You Do With Old Calendars?

Philippines
April 15, 2007 8:59am CST
Before, I just simply get rid of them if they could serve me no purpose anymore. However, I have been trying to collect old calendars since year 2000. As I added last year's calendar, I can no longer find them. Then I remembered that my children helped me with the general house cleaning last October. They must have found the heap of old calendars and just simply throw them away seeing no reason for keeping them. When I inquired about it, no one seems to remember. The smiles that crossed their faces a little later, should tell me more. I chose to let it go. Now, I am back to square one. How about you? Do you find any more use for those old calendars?

If I like the pictures, I might cut them up and keep them. Otherwise, I will just dump them. But if there is some white space I can write on at the back, I will just keep them as rough paper.

I used to do the cutting of the beautiful pictures when my kids were in the grade levels. Some are good enough for some school projects. The huge ones, I used to give to their teachers for the audio visuals - scrap book type. Kind of good for one sitting. These are welcome conservation efforts. You are really a very amazing person, lordwarwizard, to be such a conservationist.

I don't usually collect old calendar, except if they are customized or personalize, especially with our family name on it. They are so beautiful like that and it would be a shame to trow them away. For the ordinary ones, especially without pictures or anything, I mostly used them for starting a barbecue fire, (^^,LOL)

I have seen some of these calendars. They are usually made of cloth. Big enough to use as wall decors as they always come with excellent designs.

I usually save my calenders because I jot a lot of information on them and might have to refer back to them. My favorite calenders are the ones with animals or cooked meals with recipes on them. What are your favorite calenders. Lloyd

I like most the ones which come with beautiful designs. For daily purposes, the very big ones where I can write some reminders are best. Lately, I have developed a love for chinese calendars. They are very beautifully packaged being hardbound and come in gold and red. The first one I had was for 2006, it was a gift from a distant friend.

OOoh, I love some of those pictures as desktop backgrounds for my computers. Otherwise I recycle the calanders because they don't have a use for me anywmore. However, I never thought about collecting them before and I guess that would be an interesting hobby. I am sure you can find more old calenders on eBay if you search there. It seems like there is a lot on eBay. Have a nice day. Pablo

This is very true. Especially those which contain pictures of beautiful flowers, gardens, vintage cars and houses, to name some.

I tear it into several pieces because my belief is 'old order changeth yielding place to new'.

haha! well, if i like the style or the layout of the calendar... finding it unique and interesting to keep, i keep them and not throw them away. but most of the calendars usually go to the trash after being replaced. that's a good idea...a collection of calendars. just sad to know you need to start again. hehe

I don't generally keep old calendars anymore-- but we used to have 5-6 colorful ones around the house every year, and I used to give them to my neighbor. She was a grade school art teacher, and would use them for art projects with her students-- so at least they went to a "good cause," rather than just ending up in the garbage dump. A long time ago, I used to cut my favorite pictures and save them, with the idea of "some day" getting them framed. Of course, that never happened, and the pictured eventually vanished during one of my moves.

Teachers have many good uses for old calendars. When my kids were in grade school, their teachers solicited old calendars for all purposes pictures and papers can serve.

I usually keep the previous year because I wanted it to be a reference if we have something to look upon the previous year.We always throw or burned those old calendars at home.

Yes, you can always give them to those who recycle them. When you throw them in the garbage bins, the recyclers get hold of them immediately. That's how it is here in our place. Perhaps this is true in your place, too.

Before when I was in primary school, I did use old calenders to rap my book so as to protect it from dirt, but now get rid of them, because I feel they serve me no purpose anymore. Thanks and have a nice day.

I just throw them out. I feel if the year has passed they are worthless. Just me. I sometimes will forget about them though, and they will stay on my wall for a few months after the year has passed :P

You are a very practical person, LordGregoroftheSith, the kind who feels it is best to move on rather than hold on to the past. I remember a teacher of mine in high school, she holds this value, too, and shared it with us.

Good that you have the habit of collecting old calenders. Which ever calenders i buy for my home are of good quality and thick papers. So those can be used as wrappers to old books as well as to cover my shelves. If the calenders contain a good scenic pictures i will just cut them and prepare a poster or laminate that and hang it over on the wall. Nothing is useless we can make use of any old thing i guess.

It will be advantageous to have calendars with good quality paper. The ones with beautiful pictures will always perk up the room where we have them. Laminating those which capture your interest is a good way of making them of service much, much longer. Books wrapped in them stay in their good shapes.

Well... for my old Calendars, it depends on the design. if it had a nice design, I would love to keep it as a collection. if it's just had the usual design, I probably would use it to trash some trash in my room or anything.

yep. that's how i do it, too. it all depends on the design. if the design is worth keeping, then i keep them... if it's just like any ordinary calendar, i just throw them away when a new year comes.

There are calendars which come as artcrafts. It must be a pity if they just get thrown away. For me, they were made that way because they were meant to be collectors' items.

i usually just throw them away as i can't think of any use of them anymore... i find that i will make my house full if i keep them... but i will collect the nice picture...

I also don't like to keep old calendars. As soon as the year is completed, i just destroy them. but now I came to know through my friend , we can use it for putting cover for the books and note books, if they are plain, we can use it for rough use.

Yes, I agree with you that these items can still serve some purpose. It is better to use them before throwing away.

i do use it often for the following 1. Put them as sheets in my shelves so that i can keep clothes on top of them and thus i am able to prevent hem from dust in the shelves. 2. I also use them for wrapping up my books whichever i read at home so that they are preserved forever.
