It is a truly hopeless situation. The war is unlikely to get onto US soil, but Iraq will tear itself apart and hundreds of thousands more will die if there is a pull out, although i think that will happen even if the US and alllies remain. The comment made that the UK can just walk away is laughable, don't forget that the UK and Spain are the two countires that have been hit by major terrorist attacks as a direct result of these countries support for the invasion. 9/11 was nothing to do with Saddam (who arrested and tortured Islamic ilitants as well as socialists, communists, democrats and Iranians - winning plaudits and arms from the west for doing this) or Iraqis, the invasion has made a lot of people very angry and we will suffer the consequences of a thoroughly stupid political leadership in the West for many many years. Thankyou Bush and Blair on behalf of my children who will inherit this mess you have made.

It's no laughable, I said minimal I didn't say nothing at all. The UK and Spain have only been attacked since of their invovment in the war not before. After it's attack and a change in government spain dropped out and havn't had such attacks since. This is what I base my idea on, that these contries may walk away much more easily - easier but not definately without repercussions.

Don't forget to include the French who after WWI helped draw the borders and create the new countries. They split the Kurds between Turkey, Syria, and Iraq to prevent them from becomming too powerful. Each country that was formed was set up with a dictator that was friendly to either France or Britian.

The US is damned if they do and damned if they don't. The UK, canada etc is in a position to walk away with minimal damage because most of the interest in the middle east in the last century has been by the US and USSR.
America should never have seen an attack on civilians like 9/11. In the same way so many arab, muslim, middle eastern etc civilians should never have been attacked.
They were, and so as a result I think they will have issues with the US for years to come.

I don't think we're in a situation where all will go well whether we stay or leave. But it is my opinion it is time for a gradual withdrawal, we will never be able to stabilize Iraq, it is time they make their own way. However I don't think the war will ever make it to American soil. Some would argue that it did come to our soil on 9/11, and to an extent they are right, but there have been terrorists since the beginning of time, there is no way we will ever completely be victorious in a war on terror. Bush says we are fighting a war on terror, but in essence we are creating more terror, statistics prove terrorist attacks are on the rise. Until everyone worships in one universal way(which will never happen)there will be terrorists, this has turned into a religious battle, not a battle to liberate Iraq.
